Windex in paint?

I've heard of people adding Windex to their paints (small amount) prior to spraying. What does this do for the paint?

Windex's used to thin acrylic paints.

Hmmm....interesting. I just use 70% rubbing alcohol. It seems to work well and it's cheap.

Windex is fine for dark color paints, but for light colors you are actually better not using it as the color of the windex will discolor the paint.

Personally I prefer to use rubbing alcohol or the thinners that is meant to thin the paint.

I don't recommend using Windex to thin Tamiya acryllics.

Some people use windshield wiper fluid, and they say the blue discoloration is not noticeable in small qunatities. They say the concentration between alcohol and water is just perfect. YMMV.

I use windscreen washer fluid myself, it's very cheap and the colour I use is slightly yellowish which is fine in all colours but white.

Windex (I think the amonia acts as a flow agent) is used to reduce surface tension of the paint and allows it to flow smoothly when applied. I have used it in the past, but I don't airbrush with it anymore. I try to stick to Tamiya thinner when airbrushing their gloss acrylics and I use acrylic lacquer thinner for semi-glosses and flats. I also use regular off the shelf isopropyl alcohol when weather conditions permit-meaning when its warm enough outside and low amounts of humidity in the air.
Gunze acrylic paints can be thinned with iso alcohol or acrylic lacquer thinner.

If you really want to use a flow agent when painting, use a brand called flow aid, which is formulated for acrylic paints. It is clear, so no worries about discoloration. You'll have to be careful with the amounts you use with any flow agent additives as your results may end up with improper sheen to the dried surface. I used the brand Flow aid at work for brush painting with cel-vinyl paints and light airbrushing for cartoon maquettes.

This may post may confuse some readers, but I am answering deejay's question the way I have interpreted it. Sorry to rant on.
