WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7 (Super 7 Contest)

Well, the customer is buying a Super 7 in real life soon, and was looking for a unique engine to drop in it, so I suggested a Slant Six--he decided to have me build one in scale first, to see if he likes it!

Engine is a Ross Gibson resin kit (it's fantastic, btw) and the kit is the usual Tamiya Super 7. Gonna have to do a lot of measuring and cutting to get it to fit...

BTW, is it too late to enter this into the Super 7 Group Build?

Only if you don't finish it by the closing date.

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Did some hacking to get the motor to fit. It's obviously quite a bit longer than the Cosworth, but it's also a little bit taller, despite being on a slant. So it's going to sit lower down in the chassis, which is obviously good, and I cut the floorpan and cowl/firewall back a little. It even fits under the hood now!

Indeed. Haven't finished cleaning up the cuts yet, which is why the engine isn't glued in place anyway.

interesting choice of motor. Looks good so far. Are you going to do webber side-draft carbs on this one?

No sir, keeping the Slant Six "Hyperpak" headers and intake, with a small roots blower on top.

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Got the blower sort of figured out... it's a tiny roots, probably a 4-71, off of an AMT '32 Ford. I'm gonna try and base it off the blown Slant 6 you see below... not an exact replica, but the same idea. Looks like the air cleaner'll just pop out of the hood--perfect. The manifold behind it is fabricated from square styrene.

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Got the engine together now, other than the blower belt and the oil filter. Turns it does NOT clear the hood, so a hole will be cut in the hood to clearance the carb, blower and its pulley.

They always look better with the blower peeking through the hood :-D

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

i wonder how much more a blown slant six weighs than the cossie, and what that would do to the handling of the 1:1 car...

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

I don't really think the owner cares

It would be significantly heavier, but the engine will also have a lot of its weight further back than the old 4cyl...

Re: WIP - Customer's Slant Six-Powered Lotus Super 7

Decided to go with Dupli-color Charcoal Grey Metallic instead of standard gunmetal, clearcoat has been applied but not sanded or polished yet. We decided to go with the modern look and remove the fenders as well.
