00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
I have an 00 GTP that has a High Pressure Power Steering Hose leaking and needs replaced. Anyone have a write up on how to do this? Looks pretty straight forward, undo the fittings and remove line from clamps. My main concern is getting access to the fittings and being able to remove the line from the Car. Any Tricks to this or is it pretty simple?

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
I had read that Link and it really refers more to replacing the Pump. I am looking for information on just replacing the High Pressure Hose.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
The connection to the pump is a cinch. Just remove the passenger wheel.
I couldn't get my hands in where the lines connect to the rack and pinion when I replaced me so I had to lower the back portion of the subframe. It may not be necessicary, but it made the job easier. Be carefull to support the front of the car on the pinch welds with jackstands, then chock the back wheels. Then you should be able to slowly loosen the rear subfram bolts to lower it. May want to have a jack under it to keep it from falling in case the bolts come out. All you really need is to lower it about an inch and you are golden.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
Good deal. I didn't have any Metric Line Wrenches so I went out and bought a set of Crows Feet ones. I believe with a Ratchet and Extension, I should be able to get at the fitting on the Rack without lowering the Sub-Frame.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
I am interested to know your progress. Am in the middle of replacing the steering gear/ rack in a 99 Intrigue W-car. I have the rear subframe bolts all the way out and both bolts out of the rack. I am using an 18mm flare nut wrench. The hose connectors at the gear/ rack are so tight I can't get them loose. I would welcome any suggestions.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
Regular 18mm wrench? Might be longer and give you more torque. Just make sure you are using the correct size whether it be Metric or SAE so you don't round them off. Panther piss is your friend.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
Actually using a MAC flare nut wrench. Removed sway bar and disconnected the high pressure hose at the pump. That allowed me to slide the rack rearward and to the left. I was then able to get enough clearance for the wrench and used a deadblow hammer to break the nuts loose. Got it back together - the old rack had broken plastic bits in the boots. But now the pump groans like a banshee.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
in the case you round the head off, or you don't have luck with flare wrench cut the line at last 8 inches away from the bolt and start moving the lane front and back, the line will then brake off right at the bolt head then just use 18 mm 6-point socket for better grip.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
Got mine taken care of on Saturday. No problem getting the Lines off with a Crows Foot style for use with a Ratchet. Hardest part of the whole job was running the New Line. Tried to run as close to factory routing as possible.

Re: 00 GTP High Pressure Power Steering Hose
usually when installing powersteering hoses, if you use GM/Delco ones, routing them is not an issue.
