Tails fixed all red!!!!!!!!!

Ok I went down to local hobby store and got red paint(candy apple translucent red) cost was $3.99ea. got 2 just in case. I taped off the parts I had allready painted last week. I think the match is perfect. tell me what ya think...

Personally, i don't dig the black on the tailights. :coolguy:

I also dont like the 88-89 taillights.

Hey KIRS,

Thats what is great about doing this stuff not everybody likes it. Im glad you said something. I unlike others did it cause I thought it would look good and did not ask before I did it. I just wanted people comments on the mod. Thank You for your input. And the rest of you Thanks also for your comments. Im happy with it..

Oh ya and where can I put a step by step. It is really easy to paint.

is it possible to paint the reverse light too? i mean, to still have it give off white light? i read somewhere that it works.. i think that would be the ultimate clean look.

That is black kryon paint. The key to doing your tails is clear coating them after all the paint is on them.

On the reverse lights I dont know. I live in california the cops around here will pull you over if they think(ya think) you are looking at them wrong so Im not pushing the reverse lights red also.

did u use any sand paper on the lights before you painted them? I have an extra set of tail lights, but they are from a 88-89 civic, so i am gonna try this on these lights and then sell em if they cam out good, and then do that on my 90-91 set if they came out good

OK.

things you will need: kylon black paint, testors candy apple translucent red paint (local hobby store), clear coat (I choose rim clear coat), blue glass tape (make sure it is glass masking tape), 1500 grit wet-dry sand paper.

step 1. take out the tail light and clean with soap and water.

step 2. figure out how much of the tail you want to show after the painting is all done. Mask area with the blue tape that you DO NOT want to be painted.

step 3. Take the 1500 grit sand paper scuf sand the area that you are painting black. Lightly dull look, not too much. Now take the tape off again and wash again.(to get all the dust off if ya dont it will look crappy)

step 4. Retape the area you DO NOT want painted. making sure the tape is good and firmly down(if you dont it will run under the tape)

step 5. This is where the impaitient ones loose it. First coat very lightly spary the edges of the tape to insure it is sealled. This will also make sure you get enough paint on the edge so no light comes through.

step 6. wait about 15 mins after first coat before you do the second coat every coat should be very light to reduce the chance of runns.

step 7. You should do about 7-8 light coats on waiting 15-30 between each coat if where you live is colder (75*f here) more time should be added between coats.

step 8. let dry over night before removing tape. (at this point if you have red corners wait 1-2days after last coat of paint goes on to put the clear on refer to step 9) after tape is removed let the paint dry for at least 2-3days before you retape to paint the corners, follow basiclly the same as before 7-8 light coats. And wait 2-3 days after last coat of red goes on. (make sure you cover the rest of the tail with news paper so you dont get paint on everything else)

step 9. Clear coat again 7-8 light coats of clear making sure not to run IT is very thin so watch how much you put on. Let that dry for another day or two. Becarful about getting water on them for the first week. Cause they can get water spots embedded in the clear.

You Done now reinstall them and your good to go

Question: Will this only work on Honda's or can I try it on my Sunfire?

#2: If I decide to change it, can I use some thinner and just wash the paint away without messing up my whole casing?
