If it's an EX it DOES have VTEC (no H). And it's I believe a d16y8 or something. It should be stamped right on the block underneath the distributer on the left side.

look in your manual, it should say that you have VTEC. And I believe it is the D1678 motor. In low hp cars, you can't even tell that you have VTEC sometimes.

96 and up Ex's are D16Z7 or D16Y8 6Gen- EJ displacement of 1590 compression of 9.6 to 1 and 127hp @ 6600rpm 107 lb/ft of torque @ 5500rpm and your motor is made in the good ol' USA, hope i was of some help.
PS- V.T.E.C. - stands for Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Control
and as was said no H, its also pretty worthless without a VTEC controller

there is no such engine as d16z7 but i belive it was a typo and you meant d16y7 as there is a d16Z6 but it came out in 92-95 Civic EX/Si

6G- 96-00- EX Class USA EJ D16Z7 1590 9.6:1 127hp@6600/107lb-ft@5500
you can go to street tuner's forums or here's another couple of site's I took the liberty of finding people never believe me the first time in these forums. So to avoid conflict-

whats my motor?

but when i bought the car the dealer said that it was NOT a VTECH and engine doesn't say VTECH on it. I'm almost positive that it is a SOHC. Don;t the VTECHs have DOHC?

Here's the deal

You have a 99 Civic EX, correct?
Therefore you have a D16Y8, Single Over Head Cam (SOHC) "VTEC" engine. (VTEC is just V-T-E-C... not VTECH... VTECH makes phones)

here are some other engine codes for yall to play with

D16Z6 SOHC VTEC engine, came in 1993-1995 Civic Si's and EX's and also Civic Del Sol Si's.
D16Y7 SOHC non-vtec came in 1996-2000 Civic CX's, DX's, and LX's.

DO YOU UNDASTAND THA WORDS COMIN' OUT OF MA MOUTH? VTEC!!!!!! NO H!!!!!!!
but anyways, dealers are stupid, and we're smart. Check your manual, you should have VTEC if you have a 99 Civic EX

If you truely don't have a vtec engine, you better start complaining to the dealer because the trim decals may have been swapped, meaning you have been scammed. Does your car have a moon roof? I think only ex's have moon roofs.

I think the bottom line here is that if it's an ex you have a VTEC. Case closed, drive through, please come again.
