Question RPM activated switch

Ive been using a rpm activated switch to try and make a LED shift light, but havnt had success as yet. I was wondering if the switch itself doesnt work, is there anyway to test an rpm activated switch?

Does anybody know? Theres 4 wires, they are to; 12v, tach, ground, and light.
