How well does this electric waxer/polisher perform?

I might be interested in purchasing this, primarily for waxing my vehicle, and removing swirl marks. Anybody use this? It looks like a very good deal to me.

Re: How well does this electric waxer/polisher perform?

Its a buffer not a polisher , polishers stricktly spin and buffers vibrate and spin slowly. They are useful in waxing and slight paint repairs and great for removing wax after an application. Theres 2 kinds of basic polishers triger sensative and dial speed , triger sensative polishers are kinda like a power grinder pretty much no controll of the speed its either off or going like a bastard but theres some that are trigger sensative the more you pull the faster it spins then theres dial speed which just limits the speed to certain rpms from a dial.
Then theres fancy gadget polishers but i dont care much forem myself personally.

brandon,

This machine will be useless for removing swirls! It's really only benefit will be to help you either apply wax a little quicker or remove it quicker!

For the swirls, you might need a high speed rotary which will generate heat, which reduces the thickness of your clear coat which will remove or minimize the swirls! Swirls can be likened to high ridges in the paint or clear coat and that's what makes them visible! Not for an amateur that's for sure!

The other method I use is a Porter Cable 7424 Dual Action Random Orbital Polisher.

You can purchase this online or at many auto supply stores for about $150.00 US. Seems a lot of money, but it's an incredible fool proof reliable machine used by the Pro's!

This unit has a random orbital action to reduce/remove swirls! It can be set at speeds from 1,000 OPM to 6,000 OPM and will generally do the job at 4,500 OPM! This machine along with the right pad and polish/compound will provide amazing results! The real beauty is that this machine cannot and will not burn your paint or induce holograms or swirls that are often seen on dark vehicles after a high speed polisher has been used! Matter of fact, it will remove them! Professionals like myself will follow up after a high speed with the PC 7424 to ensure that we have none of these uglies left on the paint! I also use the PC 7424 to apply and remove wax! It's the best thing I have ever bought! The only way to damage your paint with this machine is to drop it on the paint!

The other method is by hand! This will be a workout, but great results can be achieved (dependant on the severity of the swirls of course)! Just get a quality polish that can be used by hand, such as Meguiar's #9 or #83 or Poorboys SSR 1 or 2 or 2.5 and your good to go! Might take a couple of times but you can get most of them out by at least 85%! Then just wipe the polish up and follow with a premium pure carnauba wax! You're in business!

If you need further help..make a post or add to this and I will be glad to bring it to the table to help you out!

Hope this was of help to you!

Hey guys, I have just purchased the pc7424 and I need to know what ploish is good to use to remove the swirls that I have. Also, what polishes, wax, sealent would you guys suggest for darker colored vehicles. And also are there any specific products to be used on higher end cars such as mercedes, bmw, lexus, jaguars, ferrari, porsche etc.?

Great Buy! I use mine all the time! I would suggest some Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish (DACP) or Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze.

Another great choice is Poorboy's SSR 2.0,2.5 & 3.0

3.0 being the most aggresive!

These products usually handle most swirls/cobwebs, but do not always take care of deep scratches! It also depends on the pad's you use with PC and what speed! I use Lake Country 6.5" pads and find them to be incredible and long lasting! The Orange Pad is for cutting, the White For Polishing, And the gray pad for applying waxws/sealents.

I generally can get by with the white pad, meg's 83 and a speed of 5 - 5.5 on the PC. On darker colors you made need to follow up with the 80 as 83 can leave some minor micro marring.

For sealents on all colors, I use Klasse Sealent Glaze or Poorboy's EX w/Carnauba or Wolfgang is good I'm told!! Then I top with Pinnacle Souveran or P21S or Meguiar's NXT. Depends on my mood and what I think will look best.

Her'e's my black car with:

83
Klasse All In One X 2 coats
P21S X 3 Coats

And her'e's an Audi..same procedure:

My brother's Van..Same Combo:

Re: How well does this electric waxer/polisher perform?

Hey that's pretty nice. I'm kinda new to this whole thing so I'm in the learning process right now. Thank's for the info! What exactly is the cutting pad used for? I've heard it mentioned a lot in my researching but never knew what it was for.

The cutting pad is the most aggresive next to a wool pad! I would only use a woll pad in a severe situation and then I would use it with the high speed rotary.

So..with the PC...you can use a cutting pad as the initial step in reducing swirls and cobwebs and minor scratches! You might find on dark colors that the cutting pad will "haze" or "dull" the paint! This is normal, and you might need to follow up with a finer polish to restore the gloss!

So, far I have not had to use the cutting pad too much as I'm more likely and willing to take two passes with a polishing pad and acheive the same result, if not better than that of a cutting pad. And I don't haze the paint in the process. It's six and one half dozen of the other so to speak.

Check out this link:

How To Use The Porter Cable

I think you will find this to be an excellent source of info on the PC.

If you have any further questions. just ask away and I will be glad to answer or get the answer for you!

Have Fun learning...it's not a hard machine to master at all!

Two more pictures for the sickness I call a career of automotive detailing

.....lol Look at the reflections off my hood....it's sick....hehehehehehe

Re: How well does this electric waxer/polisher perform?

f1guy68, do you have your own detailing company? I'm assuming R.M Automotive Detailing is your company. What state do you run your business from. I'm from New Jersey so detailing takes it's break a lot in the winter unfortunately. I'm trying to come up with a marketing plan so I can still detail in the winter. I've written up a winter preperation form for customers. Hopefully it works.

Re: How well does this electric waxer/polisher perform?

sq2278, Yes..this is my own company! I'm in Ontario, Canada! So I know what winter is all about as well...arghhhh!

The winter prep form is a great idea. I do the same! And I offer my regular customers a discount in price for just a wash and basic cleanup during those winter months! As you know..once they drive away in the winter, the car is filthy again...lol It's even harder for me because I'm mobile and work on their property and most times out in the open. Brrrrrrr....chilly....lol
