?'s about '94ish firebird formula's

I am almost 17, and looking into buying a car. I am attracted to the '94 (or similar year) firebird formulas. I have seen them with decent miles on them, in good condition for around $6k-$7k which is my price range. I am a big engine guy, so the V6 seems like a waste to me, even though i am paying for gas, i feel the V8 will make me much happier despite the buying price hike and gas price increase (well, the amount of money i spend on gas thats is). I want a manual, because a car like that deserves one, plus the few times i have driven manual although i sucked due to lack of practice, it was fun. My father, who has a fair amount of influence over my car choice, is ok with firebirds due to their large size and weight. He didn't seem too objectionable to the V8. I need info on the repair records, reliability, repair costs, MPG, general insurance #'s, and whatever other info and help you could give me. I love firebird formulas and hope to get one, so any help you can give me i will appreciate greatly. Thanks.

I have a 94 Trans Am and I love it... i just had mine tuned up about a month ago and it cost me a grand cause of the way the LT1 is stuffed under the hood... they all have a 16.2 gallon gas tank and if you drive it right you can get roughly 250 miles to the tank... which isn't bad.

Right now I'm 18 and i pay 2200 dollars a year in insurance, and that's with a previous at fault accident.

Well, now i am might be considering a mid '90s Mustang GT, only reason i don't go for one is that they aren't really fast from what i hear and that everyone and their mother has one...lol

lol, actually my parents (who are helping fund the car...a lot, hehe) found out about the reliability of the f-body (consumer guide rated it one of the worst) and now are considering tossing in more money, or picking a car according to reliability and not worrying about price AS much. So if this works out how i want, i will be looking for a nice BMW 3 series (used of course)...we shall see...muhahaha

Well, I've had 4 of them (still have 2), and never had a major problem, yet. The worst one so far was the headlight motor switch broke, but it was under warranty. Between the 95, 99, 98 and 2nd 95, I've been in for service twice, total combined for the 4 cars. Thats not too bad, considering I drive pretty agressively sometimes...

I bought my 94 TA when i was 21 (24 now) and love it. Insurance in ny is a fortune for me, but i have two cars. So i guess thats the down side. Car is very reliable, i would say anything that breaks is more often then not the user doing stupid things in it. Nothing beats a TA for looks in my oppinion. Shitty things about the cars is the opti spark (opti crap), shitty headlight gears and a tendancy to run real hot, especialy in the earlier lt1 v-8s, engine bay is real tight, so simple maintenance like spark plugs can be a bitch. The cars are fast, smooth on the eyes, not alot of body rust, easy to upgrade and chicks dig em. Cops will be all over you though, but that just makes them more fun! lol

peace
