More B16 Impressions

Since my last thread got turned into a boring B16 vs B18 debate, I'm opening a new one.

Went down to the DMV today and registered my 91 Si w/ B16A... Within 5 minutes, I was putting it through the paces:

--This motor rocks! Most of the power is above 7Krpm; but the '16 is more than happy to rev to 8Krpm... Due to the crazy power delivery, you can find yourself exceeding the speed limit very easily (I hit 95mph when passing a semi on a single road today, oops) if you redline in 3rd gear (see jekyll/hyde comment below).

-- The Hasport motor mounts really do make the car less civil (I have a clapped out STD for comparison purposes); especially when idling.

-- The ES Hyper bushings make the car a little less civil while driving.

-- The Tokico blues/hyper bushings make the car quite a bit less forgiving over bumpy road (GF complained that it made her boobs hurt; I recommended a sports bra).

-- My sh!tty no-name tires are the weakest link in the suspension system; plowing in tight turns and absolutely no traction in full-throttle 1st gear runs (B16 hums right up to 8K with tires screaming though).

-- I like the tight ratio S1 5-spd. It would be nice if 5th was a bit longer (3K @ 55); but I do most of my driving around town so it's not a big deal.

-- Best thing: downshifting and watching (& hearing) the motor wind back up to 7.5Krpm.

The most interesting thing about this car's powerplant is its Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality. Granny shifting = Civic DX; Redline shifting = sport bike. Hats off, Mr. Honda!
