2000 cougar "Wide Open throttle"" Issu

I have a 2000 cougar w/2.5 liter v6. The car is surging at 6000 rpm only when the car is hot. It doesn't do it when you first drive it. Its not throwing any codes. I have replaced the egr sensor, coil pack, plugs (Checked the gap) and wires, fuel filter and switched mass air flow sensor. I looked at IMRC and it seems a little jammed up but I unplugged it and ran the car and it did the same thing. The car ran GREAT until about a week ago and now no one seems ro know what;s wrong. THE IMRC is $330 from Ford and this may or may not fix it? Since all the upper and lower intake and throttle body is all SVT I'm not even sure if I need the IMRC I put new injectors in about 6 months ago too and a new fuel rail. HELP please....

Let me reiterate...When I stomp on it. In first and second its fine. When I shift into third and (still have the Pedal all the way down) it's slower getting up to the higher rpms and when I get arond 6000 it starts to hesitate and it just stops accelerating and surges but if I shift into fourth it drives fine until it gets arond 6000rmps again.

When it running normally if I get on on it has immediate response and wont stop until I hit the rev limiter. I did try fuel injection cleaner Too...Everything is tight and I have checked all the usual crap and now it just pissing me off....

What do you mean by surging? And this happens right at 6,000RPMs during WOT? What's the rev limit on those engines?

It cuts out at 7000. arond 5800 or so it surges likes it shorting or not getting enough fuel. it runs fine all through the rest of the rpms.

Let me know if you figure this out cuz i'm having a very similar problem and suspecting it to be the IMRC as well.

Re: 2000 cougar "Wide Open throttle"" Issu

After spending tons of money it turned out to be an issue with my cold air intake. One of little rubber hoses that went from the intake to the heads was ripped.

I replaced the hose and it ran fine. There are two of those hose and they work as a vaccum opening your secondaries at WOT!

I went with a complete new cold air intake (weapon R) and it made such a difference. WAY BETTER!!!

Hope this helps....

Re: 2000 cougar "Wide Open throttle"" Issu

So i found the rotating thingy that is used to pull the cable to open the IMRC butterfly valves open and played with it a couple times. (opened and closed) and my loss of power went away..

I'm thinking theres just some carbon buildup on them and i free'd it momentarily.

A few months back i had the IMRC stuck closed code.... Performed a "wiggle test" on the connector, and the code disapeared and i re-gained my power. Back then it wasn't intermittent, right at 3 grand lost all bawls. Where as this time around it sticks momentarily at completely random times.

Thinkin about cleaning up the butterfly valves, but dont wanna have to take the plenum off and buy new gaskets.... how much are intake gaskets on this engine anyway? (2.5)
