Re: 2000 buick century won't start

Welcome to AF!!

There are a couple of possible problems here. First, it is possible that the battery is bad and does not have enough stored energy to turn the engine over. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Second, make sure the battery terminals are clean and making good contact. Third, the starter solenoid may be bad and not engaging the starter. In that case you should hear a click when you turn the key. The other possibility is that the ignition switch is not engaging the starter. You can jump the two terminals on the starter solenoid with a screwdriver to see if the switch is bad. If none of this works you should change the starter and solenoid.

Worst case scenario the engine may be locked up but that is doubtful!!

Do you have a key that has a security chip in it??? If so the security system may be not allowing it to turn over. Have you checked for 12 volts at the starter??

Re: 2000 buick century won't start

Bill I have the same problem on the same year and model car. Had it towed to my local mechanic and he checked all of the things you replaced and found them to be OK. He determined that the computer was bad and it had to be replaced by a dealer as they have the codes and do not share them with independent mechanics. I have little faith im my local dealer, they didn't even ask for my name or number when I told them I was having it towed to them. They were supposed to check it out today and call me, but it didn't happen. Hopefully Monday. I'll let you know what problems they find.

Buick dealer says pmc bad. Estimated parts and labor $201.98.
He said this was the body pmc (computer), so they must have more than one.

Re: 2000 buick century won't start

Hello people, I would like to know if anybody has solved this problem, my uncle's '92 century has the same problem, it wil start in the morning but sometimes after the engine has warmed up if you turn the engine off, go shopping and try to start the car again all the lights in the dashboard will work and will act like the car is trying to start but there is no cranking noise, I've run a cable and a switch from the battery straight to the starter motor and this is a temporary fix, I guess there must be something wrong under the dashboard. Where is the starter solenoid located?. What do you guys think?

olopezm

Since other than the name, there is no similarity between your 1992 model and the OP's 2000 model Century, you'd be better off starting your own thread for your issue a this thread is for a completely different car.
