Question about Window Tint
First of all, I would like to introduce myself and say I'm the proud new owner of a 2003 325 Ci. Previously, I have always been a Ford truck man (don't hold it against me). I always swore I would never get a non-truck (or a non-Ford), but once I saw and drove the Beamers I got hooked...maybe it's a hormonal change..I don't know..
Anyway, presumably stupid question but - I am going to get my windows tinted next week, and my 325 has that little window function where it (the window) goes up a tad when the door gets shut. Won't this create a line at the bottom of the window where the tint stops (when the doors are shut)? The installation is always done with the doors open, but when the doors shut the window moves up. I don't think installation can be done with the doors closed (and even if it can, I don't think a good job can be done with the doors closed, tinting from the inside). I just don't want to pay $300 for a nice tint job and have it look crappy....Anyone here install tint and have any problem? Again, sorry for the stupid question. I have yet to admit to my F150 forum that I've got a BMW now....I'm afraid the good ol' boys will come and hang me for "convertin'"....

Hi!
I'm the proud owner of a 2001 330 Ci that I enjoy EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I got my windows tinted at a Ziebart shop here in Dayton OH. I asked the same question and the installer showed me how they "trick" the car to think that the door is closed by moving the lock position in the door while the door is open. They did an awesome job in my car. One thing to keep in mind is your local regulations about how much tint you can have in your windows since your car already has 15% tint from the factory. Enjoy your new ride!!! Juan |

Can you share with me that little trick? I am able to flip the door latch in the door, but the windows don't go up???? Am I missing something?

I'm sorry, I did not see how they did it at Ziebart. The lady that did the installation is deaf and was only able to make signas to me about what she was going to do in order to take care of that problem.

window tinting
believe it or not the way the window goes down like that enables you to roll your windows down the day you get them. i had my windows tinted and was able to roll them down the same day. its been three years and have had no problems yet

Dont worry about it, if its a good shop theyll know what to do. I had 5% limo tint put on my Jet black '00 328Ci and its been freakin sweet for the past 6 months Ive had it.

You can't tint the back window of the convertible (not on the e36 anyway) because it FOLDS when you take the top down. The tint film will bubble up and stuff and look jacked up.
