MR2 Questions

I have a 1998 Toyota Celica GT
and as much as I love it, flying around the tight little corners; it annoys me knowing that I can never be fast in a straight line, even with swapping in the 3S-GTE.
so what I'm looking into now is buying a MR2 NA with the 5S-FE like I have now. Don't worry, it won't have the engine for long if all goes well.

what i'm curious about it, what are the main things I should be looking for/at when I check out a MR2 at a dealer/private owner?
(ie. with a all-trac you're suppose to run some full throttles in 1st and 4th and check for black smoke...yadda yadda)
