Sick Escort

I,m new to this group and I hope someone can help me. I have a 1998 Escort wagon 2 liter twin cam.56000 miles it is a little hard to start but runs fine once started then will die for no reason I can drive it but one minute it runs fine the next it will hardly go then it will be fine. when I put it in gear (automatic) and step on the gas it is just a dog then it will go I suspect a fuel problem changed the filter (not easey) but no help do you think it could be a fuel pump problem? I crawled under the car while it was running and could hear the pump running could it be low fuel pressure? or somthing elce not a fuel problem? Ken

haha wow your the biggest help ive ever heard ... anyways, i would guess it may be your fuel pump, but before that i would check to make sure all your spark plug wires are all in place and snug, and there is no loose connections.
