1st mod for B16a2 going turbo
I just wanted to know what I should do first when i am going to turbo my car...I want to put a garrett t3/t4 turbo in my car....can I get turbo exaust first?

nah a turbo size exaust will cause you to lose much of your low end torque.i say start upgrading the fuel system. a port and polish will help too

The torque is just getting moved higher up in the rpm range. Sooo, it's not really getting lost per say...

so what kind of produckts do you recommend for the fuel system and what components...... is AEM good...I heard that it was!

buy all the parts needed for turbo conversion and then start working on the turbo upgrade. parts like turbo, turbo manifold, intercooler, larger fuel pump, larger injectors. turbo exhaust would be the last thing on my mind.
thats just the basics... to get into further detail, i suggest getting a larger radiator and possibly an oil cooler to help the engines lifespan. the engine MAY need to be decompressed for F/I (depends how much boost u plan to run) AND/OR water/methanol injection can be utilised if u dont want to open up the block (only setback is that you can only run low boost if u want the engine to survive). and then theres the brake upgrade.. u may choose to upgrade the whole disc brake/caliper/hub assembly (if u plan to build the car for speed) or just get better brake pads/steel braided lines/brake master cylinder brace for 'spirited' driving. edit: i wouldnt worry too much about brand names for the fuel components. you can source parts from other B-series hondas. |

Might go ahead and pick-up the book "MAXIMUM BOOST" by: Corky Bell. It can be found online, or at some of the major bookstores. It will help in building a good foundation on turbos...

Going turbo
My buddy has a 2000 Si and he has a garrett t3/t4 turbo, custom piping, tiel wastegate, spearco intercooler, and blitz blowoff valve. I am just telling you this because this system works for him and that is what i want to do.....I think that he is running 8 psi on stock internals and everything...injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail, everything is stock and he has not had any problems...so that is what i want to do until I can upgrade the interanls!

Good choice on the turbo, nothing better than Garrett. I would go for the turbo exhaust and a new intake or an intercooler in that case, you won't need too much else besides these once you get the turbo in.

What should I get.......
What should I get as far as upgrades before I get the turbo...I need to save up the money for it, but I want to get performance upgrades....but I don't want to waste money on stuff that I do not need!

Those two that I listed are the most practical that you are going to need and help A LOT once the turbo is in. I can't really think of anything else that wouldn't be a waste of money for you at this stage. There are plenty of things that you will want to do when you decide to build the engine though.

What's the first thing you can do?? Gain as much knowledge as possible about turbos. That's what I would do. I'm not calling you dumb, I'm just saying you should scoop as much info as possible, it'll help you (obviosly)

a couple of things you might want beforehand:
-turbo timer (so you dont have to wait in the car for it to cool down the turbo)...the new apexi timer has a digital A/F in it so that could save you on an A/F gauge...its real nice -forged pistons and rods if you wanna go over about 12psi -turbo gauge -boost controller -alot of the stuff comes with the kit already like injectors, blow off valve, etc.. maybe a test pipe for that extra flow with the turbo...i have one...good difference....gotta go now... |
