Need Advice on Buying Used SUV
I have $8,000 cash. I am looking to buy a used SUV. An explorer comes to mind, but I hate boxy stuff. Any suggestions?

If your leaning domestic , I like a Grand Cherokee Laredo. The one I bought my fiance has AWD,318ci, and plenty of subtle mods available (ei. reverse glow gauges, brush gaurds, headers, lift
, 20" rizles). Easy to work on too:alien:

I hate Jeeps! Hehe, I should have told you that. I mean an explorer is okay ... I guess, but was just looking for other options.

hey man,
I'm almost in the same shoes that you are in. I am buying a used suv under 10k. Here's what it looks like. Any SUV in the price range is going to have at least 70k miles on it. If you shop around, you can get an SUV with every available option within the price range. Look into the maintenance costs that could possibly arise around 90-100k (check my posts asking opinions on the 1998 explorer). Here is what I think you have an option of gettng - 1999 or older Cherokee Classic/Sport (the box. these seem to be VERY popular right now. You might not be able to get one with less than 90k on it, but they last.) - 1996 - 1998 Chevy Blazer - 1996 - 1998 Ford Explorer - 1998 or older Olds. Bravada - Kia Sportages. Some say they suck, some say they're ok. - 1999 Chevy Tracker. I saw a 1999 with 65k on it for 7500. I may be missing some details here, but that's about everything that fall in the range you have. 8k is really what these all start at, but I'm sure you can talk your way into one with no problem. I have been test driving SUV's for the past month and I can tell you that the "luxury" SUV's drive 100x nicer than the cheaper Kia and or Trackers. I know that should be expected, but you may fall in love with the drive. I'm currently considering getting this car: 1998 Ford Explorer Sport Color: Autumn Orange 75k miles Leather, power seats, cd player, keyless entry, etc. If you can find something like that, i'm sure you'll be thrilled! Goodl Luck! |

Ebay is a good place to look, but remember there will be shipping costs so look for something a thousand less than what you have to spend. Also any car on ebay you should send out a pre-purchase inspector in the cars area to check it out and run a carfax. There are a lot of cars on there that are wrecked rebuilds or flood rebuilds and you do not want one of those. There are also a lot of good deals on good cars you just have to be careful.
