A couple of problems.
First one and the most pressing one is that my power steering is making this sound like it is being murdered whenever i turn the wheel even a little (1inch for example). I live in a cold climate where they add salt to the streets. Maybe something related to the salt then or maybe it is just dying?
2. Security light stays on. I had a problem with the VATS wire and i took the steering column appart to fix it. The problem was that the VATS wire had broken and i couldn't start the car. But this security light stays on while I'm driving. 3. Check engine lights comes on during driving. No idea what that is about. I had it checked but they said that the check didn't turn up any errors. Hoping that someone has any ideas or solutions to any of these problems. Regards, Kristjan from Estonia |

Can't hear the p/s from here, but is the fluid full?, you could have a frozen ball joint or tie rod end , someone has to listen to this for a daignosis. The codes should be checked with a scanner or jumping the aldl connector a to b and count the flashes. A shop manual is required to troubleshoot the Security system, many things can cause this.

Umm...well I could go and record it, i forgot to mention it's a 1995 Park Avenue. The problem with the frozen rod is that the temp is above freezing so it shouldn't be a problem anymore, should it? As i have understood the p/s and brakes use the same oil, is this correct?
I had it checked with a scanner last year at an american cars garage and they said there was no problem that the scanner could find...can i check it myself with this aldl connector? i've been interested in checking it myself but the scanner is expensive and i have not found any other way to run a scan on the brain. |

No, the p/s is very different than brake fluid, do not mix them up! Frozen means rusted or frozen from no grease, not frozen from ice. As I said jump a and b at the connector for the scanner under the dash.

hmm, but where is the place where i pour the p/s fluid then? i only see a place for windscreen washing,brakes and coolant, where does the p/s oil go :o. I am a little foreign to the meaning of "jump" do you mean i put a and b wires together and count the flashes? sorry for being a pain, but i am not getting this atm
. i think i should go google aldl and then look up some schematics, maybe i'll get a better understanding of it then.

On a 1995 Park Avenue, it's not possible to read the codes without a scan tool.
The car has a OBD-1.5 system (basically still OBD-I but with OBD-II connector) where the paperclip trick doesn't work anymore.

Correct padriver, I read right past the year. The p/s pump is right below the alternator.

So, the only real way to get it checked is at a garage with a scanner...
One more question, whenever I turn off my car a pump (i believe it's the air pump for the back shock absorbers) kicks in, am I correct to assume that it is indeed a pump for keeping the car leveled? EDIT: Got the oil problem solved, seems it was empty after all, the weird noise disappeared almost immediately and the check engine light is off also. Thanks guys for the assist. So this leaves me with just the security light. Is the shop manual up somewhere digitally or do i have to buy it? Last edited by tartukaru; 03-24-2010 at 12:31 PM. |

are there any auto parts places that scan cars for freeand as fare as security light try cleaning the key resistor chip with alchol
