It's bound to happen, and was it not weeks ago that I posted that most Iraqis do not even see America as liberators, but as invaders? Those Iraqis who thought they were being liberated are now realizing the painful truth: they're not liberated; they've just been occupied and their country taken away from them. And as for the U.S. forces there, they're realizing that far from being wanted, they are on a clock to do only one thing: get out of there as fast as they could.

i think its due to looters too :o since the US army can't do anything about them because they are so few.
They really need to set up the government and get the hell out for their own good.

Is it just me or weren't the Iraqis complaining about looting? They said we should deal with it. We don't fire indiscriminantly. We are that good.

There is much anger and fear in Iraq right now. That anger and fear is going to cause all sorts of horrible things to be said, including many in that article. I love how one person feels that although the citizenry is looting their historical treasures from museums, this is something America is responsible for. So then when we move in and try to prevent people from doing such things, the first person who gets shot can claim we are shooting women and children for no reason. It's a lose-lose situation right now, we need time to swing the public opinion. And might I add that's a public opinion largely shaped by state run news agencies for the last 20 years. And we all know how accurate their reporting of the facts is...

US Central Command in Qatar confirmed that American troops killed about seven Iraqis during a demonstration on Tuesday but did not immediately comment on accusations that US marines shot civilians today. Confirmed on television news last night that demonstrators were fired on by troops on rooftops....A senior officer confirmed on camera that the troops opened fire 'illegally'[his term, not mine]. |

We're not even looking quite at the reality of this situation . . .
For all intents and purposes, Americans ARE enemies of the Iraqi people. There is no other way to look at it, regardless of the motives of this war (which are still largely debately, and quite flexible apparently), once a decision is made to DECLARE war, mutual enemies is the only result. Now, don't get me wrong, it is clear that there were some Iraqi's that were happy to have us invading their country, but that has only made me wonder about exactly WHO these happy people were. Firstly, we all know that several of the Iraqis had fled across the borders into other countries LONG before the first air strikes occurred, so . . . how many people do you really think were left to give ANY opinion about Americans, and exactly WHO were they? Perhaps it was the people that were too poor to leave (?), too sick (?), or prisoners (?). These are the people who in ANY society or country are unhappy with their present government or economy, or healthcare system. These people no doubt had dreams about the great capitalist America that was coming to "save" them from the "monster", Hussein. But not all of the people that were left behind were happy to see us . . . the rest walked straight into US soldiers until the guns started firing, they strapped themselves full of explosives, and tried to get into army camps . . . they are killing themselves. So, of course . . . the Iraqi's that remain imagined that they were going to enjoy some euphoric conditions . . . but the reality is much different than what they expected. I'm sure they wish they had left when they had the chance . . . This my friends, is the reality of war . . . right or wrong. |

Anyway, this could have been a situation of the soldiers felt a threat and responded to it. BTW, this is not an indiscriminate firing, judging by the context of the story. They either shot these people out of fear or defense or they meant to hit these people. |
