Engine swap from astro van to 87 S10 Some problems

I did an engine swap in a 87 s10 i put a 4.3 V6 Chevy Vortec out of an astro. It was running but not well. it would idle fine but when you stepped on the gas it would die. Did some tuning with timing light didn't help. Swapped comp and all that any ideas? Would i have to change the fuel pump or would the one on the s10 work?

Re: Engine swap from astro van to 87 S10 Some problems

Was your S10 4.3L TBI? What year is the Astro? Does it have the same fuel delivery system that the S10 had originally?

Re: Engine swap from astro van to 87 S10 Some problems

No the s10 was not a 4.3 and it is not the same fuel system. The s10 only has a max of 9 psi and i need like 66 psi. Not sure on the year of the 4.3 I'm looking into it. So I hope the fuel system swap will work Will the fuel pump fit in the S 10 tank or will i have to get a new tank?

It will be a BIG project to change everything over, and probably involve some R&D and fabrication work as well. Some of the things you will have to change from the Astro to the S10 are: ECM/PCM, numerous wire harnesses, fuel pump and possibly lines and the tank, most likely the transmission and the wire harness if the Astro had a 4L60E transmission, possibly transmission linkage. There will be more things, but off the top of my head, that will give you an idea of what will be involved.

Re: Engine swap from astro van to 87 S10 Some problems

yes i did all of that swap trany wire harness and ECM/PCM i also had to change the engine mounts it has been a big project. I just changed the fuel system and still the same. a friend of mine said it might have to do with a sensor or the fuel injection. Do you have any ideas? And the year of the 4.3 is 95 w.
