Gazi George

This is the same man I saw interviewed on The O'Reilly Factor.

U.S. soldiers have discovered 3,000 chemical suits in a hospital in central Iraq, raising concerns that Saddam Hussein is prepared to use chemical weapons against them.

Gazi George, a former scientist with the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, says he knows first-hand that Hussein's regime is hiding weapons of mass destruction.

How does he know? Because he was one of the people ordered to hide them.

“Between 1976 and 1981, Saddam Hussein concentrated on building his nuclear might, in addition to spending a lot of money to advance his chemical and biological systems in there,” George told The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith. “I was mainly involved in the atomic energy side and the nuclear material, and Saddam used to use every opportunity that was available to him to hide the nuclear material from the inspectors in order to use it for further enrichment to build a nuclear bomb.”

Back in 1981, he says he hid 39 rods of enriched uranium, enough to build two nuclear bombs. “The Iraqi government, or my boss at that time, was in charge of the atomic energy commission [and] called me in and told me that there might be a hit on the Iraqi reactor. And that I had to move the uranium out of the new reactor, which was the French reactor, and put it somewhere that's safe from a bombing campaign,” he tells us.

The plant was reportedly destroyed by Israeli fighter jets in 1981, before it could be put into operation.

“I moved the material and moved it in special barrels, and then moved it to a swimming pool that we built. Mainly the swimming pool was to protect the uranium, since uranium has to be stored in water at that time--it was un-reacted highly enriched uranium. We put it in the swimming pool, and we kept it there, and it was funny that the reactor was hit on June 7, I believe, at 6:25 in the evening by the Israeli planes. There were two direct hits. To the best of my knowledge, there were 20 kilograms of highly enriched uranium that were never accounted for to the U.N. inspectors,” George says.

The scientist fled Iraq in fear of his life after challenging the authorities. He has long feared that Saddam would retaliate against him and his family. But with the U.S. invasion of Iraq, he now feels more secure in sharing his secrets.

“Saddam is a master of denial and deception. I believe, and I firmly believe, that he outsmarts those inspectors that are out there. The inspectors are looking for a needle in a haystack. In addition to that, the inspectors do not know the potential for hiding these materials,” he says.

He fears that Saddam will attempt to use some of his illegal weapons stores soon. “On the level of chemical and biological, I believe that these weapons are distributed to his forces in the field," he says. "This is why I think they're either going to be used or the U.S. soldiers are going to discover them.”

If the U.S.Marines would care to look into their own stores,I'm sure that they would find chemical suits in large numbers.Does this mean that thje Americans are planning to use chemical weapons against Iraq? probably not.As to WMD,NOBODY HAS SO FAR ANSWERED A QUESTION THAT i HAVE POSED SEVERAL TIMES IN THIS FORUM....

If there are such weapons available to Saddam, why hasn't he used them?

I posted this a few weeks ago in the "Uneducated Actors" thread... its a qoute by Hans Blix

Quote:
Source (AFP):

"Asked about the discovery by US troops of protective suits and antidotes to chemical weapons in Iraq, Blix replied: "Everyone knows that they were importing atropine ... (but) one would have to wait for more solid information" before drawing any conclusions.

Blix said he believed that even if the Iraqis had proscribed weapons of mass destruction, they would refrain from using them.

"In the first place, the world would say they were liars, and in the second place it would change the attitude of the world about the armed conflict," he said.

"That's a guess, and I may be wrong," he added.
To me that seems like a reasonable argument.

It takes at least three people to use a weapon as you well know. Someone to give the order, someone to recieve it and the third to carry it out. At this point we don't know if he gave the order to use them or not. There is also the likelyhood that he did not have the opportunity. Considering the ground that was covered in such a short amount of time, there may not have been time to do much counterattacking with those kind of weapons.

He did manage to get a few rockets launched into Kuwait and fortunately those were not WMD. Because of the fast advance he was not able to get any launched at Isreal which he surely wanted to do as in 1991.

I still believe that they are going to find WMD in Iraq. There have been some suspicious discoveries but no confirmation yet. Once the areas around the country are more secure, searches by trained professionals (instead of military personel) can begin in earnest.

You mean to say that American military personnel aren't trained to detect chemical weapons? My goodness, what were they doing in military camps then? Were their officers briefing them about WMDs, or were they just making bad jokes about Saddam? Wow. If the U.S. military is that incompetent, why on earth did Bush send them for?

Do you actually think before you post? Anyone can have enough training to know something is out of place or if specialists need to be brought in. The US military is not incompetent, their primary job (as has been said) is to kill people and blow shit up. They are very good at it.

Your sarcastic bellyaching is truly tiresome. Next time, take a moment or two to think about what you are saying.

That's all very pretty,Yogs, but it's all hypothesis. To turn your argument on its head, there is no evidence to suggest that whoever fired the weapons into Kuwait did so on orders from Saddam. It has been widely reported that Saddam split iraq into several military zones and assigned absolute authority to the military leaders in each zone. But my question remains the same. Why were those scuds not filled with chemical weapons,or anthrax,or nuclear warheads? The answer is simple.Because none were available.

Your answer of "Because none were available" is also your hypothesis. It could be that they didn't have them available to them at the time b/c the have been buried. But, of course, you nor I, know for sure. There are only a few that really know.

Well, if American military personnel are not specialists at knowing what are WMDs, then you have a big problem there now. It's not sarcastic--it's just logic. They are in the military--they're supposed to know what they are looking for, since it is in their training. Or else you're wasting your tax dollars on military training when your soldiers can't even tell the difference between WMD and pesticide. I think that you should think what you are posting, since what you just posted before makes the U.S. military seem incompetent at knowing what WMDs are, and they still need specialists to go in and verify it for them.

Why on earth would regular military troops need to know what any form of WMD looks like?

There job is too follow their orders, and as said by Yogs kill people and blow up stuff. Do you really think the military command are going to bring all the troops together and show them a nuclear bomb? or anthrax?

They are trained that if they find something that looks suspicious, or remotely like a WMD, that the specialists are brought in.

If you use your supposed "logic" Milliardo, then shouldn't everyone in the military be able to use a gun, drive a tank, fly a plane, command a ship, infact use any machine they come across. Hell why don't we just train them for everything possible, it'll only take 1000 years for each solider to learn that.

Because they're soldiers. They're supposed to know what they're up against. Don't tell me you field in troops to the front without telling them what to look out for.

If they can't identify what enemy hardware looks like, how are they going to be effective? The military does more than just "blow stuff up". If that's the only thing soldiers do, then you have a very narrow view of what the military does.

Military personnel are trained to identify and defuse, if needed, enemy weaponry. It's very specific. It's not just looking at something "remotely" looking like a WMD. So it isn't just a matter of "blowing it up". If it is, then you'd have soldiers firing at friendly vehicles and hardware. This training thus involve the location and identification of enemy equipment, which would thus include WMDs. Still another poor excuse for not finding WMDs, that I see here. Actually making the U.S. military look like a bunch of incompetent soldiers with only the thought of destruction in their brains. That image seems very funny.

so you're still telling me that every single solider in the united states army, navy, airforce, & marines. Should be able to identify WMD's?

Thats so inplausible, its not funny. As I said they are trained to identify suspicious objects, then radio in specialists or ask instructions.

Plus one thing enemy hardware does not cover WMD, it covers armour, and other military equipment.

and no, infact most soliders are not trained to defuse enemy weapons. That is what specialist soliders are for. Such as not every solider can drive a tank.

But yeah, of course america's soliders are incompotent as they didn't find WMD's the second they crossed the border. They are only just begining to seriously search for them. The rest of the time the've been far to busy fighting and protecting people.
