2001 Silverado mystery problem. Comes and goes
Hey Guys/Girls,
I'm having a start problem with my 2001 Silverado. Every few weeks this happens. I try 200 times if I want with no luck. I let it sit over night... starts first shot next day. Then it's fine for a few more weeks. Runs great otherwise. So confused. Here is a video of the problem happening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61gfd9Vxb80 Don't make fun of my pants I was painting my kitchen ok! JM

When no start you need to check for lose of fuel pressure or lose of spark. What does the security light do when no start? Like key on light up for bulb check and go out or stay on? Will it start with a shot of carb cleaner into intake? If so you have a fuel delivery problem. If it has spark to plugs when no start . Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and post back fuel pressure readings on engine cranking. What is the engine size? Any code or check engine lights on?

with the nature of your failure to start , then normal operation for a few weeks this is most likely an electrical issue... when it fails check the fuel pressure , check for voltage at injectors, spark at plugs , disconnect maf connector see if it starts ... check all fuses for tightness in the socket if too loose this will cause random failures...also remove clean and the reinstall all engine compartment grounding points , then the fuel pump grounding at the fame rail fuel tank area ... I have seen the crank sensor fail with a very intermittent engine run start condition ...check connections to it as well ...mounted under starter .... |

Re: 2001 Silverado mystery problem. Comes and goes
ha ha no foot on the pedal its FI no point.
no loss of fuel pressure or spark security light comes on but i dont know for how long. I do not that it comes on randomly while im driving at hwy speed but when it does there is no effect to performance at all. Have not tried carb cleaner... (Keep in mind, it does start it just turns off right away) [See video in original post] If problem persists we will send you pressure report on engine cranking. Engine size is 5.3L There is in face a code P0336 Just not, after letting it sit for 1 hour, I tried to start it after doing a OBDII reading and it fired right up. I think it's because I pissed on it. Maybe that smartened it up. Anyway, not sure when it will happen next time but I'll keep you posted. Maybe that code will help you. JM

Checked Haynes manual. Says 2000 and older have that sensor... could it be that my 2001 was built in 2000 and it has that sensor?

They have been known to lie to you. Why do you think you think you are getting a code P0336? Is it a history or hard code? For good repair info get a factory repair manual or http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html As J Cat said look behind the starter for crankshaft sensor.

Re: 2001 Silverado mystery problem. Comes and goes
----P0336---- Inspect for poor connections at the CKP sensorTest for poor connections at the PCM for the CKP sensor circuits
Inspect the CKP sensor for signs of damage if that all looks good Replace the CKP sensor.. I have run into a bunch with oil screwing the sensors up oil in the plug itself, Even though there sealed after time there not sealed very well. good luck let us know. |

Re: 2001 Silverado mystery problem. Comes and goes
If it is showing a hard code after code clear and you have replaced the sensor you have a wiring/plugin or VCM problem if the new sensor is good.
Get a good repair flow chart for that code and go all of the way threw it. Let us know how it goes.
