Whining noise when rpms increase
I am in desperate need of any advice on my noise issue. I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. I love this car but it has a TERRIBLE whining noise that no one in Memphis can seem to diagnose. When I push on the gas and the rpm's increase, there is a loud whining noise that will increase in pitch and loudness as the rpm;s increase. When I take my foot off the gas, the noise disappears and it also does not happen when in neutral? I just had the transmission rebuilt at a local Aamco(not for this reason) and they say it is not transmission related. Someone please give me ideas that I can take to my mechanic. He is at a loss as is the dealership. The noise seems to be coming from the drivers side but I am not for sure?
My email is [email protected] Thanks, this is my first time posting. |

Re: Whining noise when rpms increase
Have you checked power steering fluid?
I have not worked on any GXP's, so I can't be of much help. You could take the serpentine belt off and run the motor for a minute or so to see if the noise is still there. If it goes away with the belt off its pulley related, if its still there you better have ammco tear into the trans again. Isn't your car still under its factory warrenty?

Re: Whining noise when rpms increase
Thanks for the reply. I want to have some ideas when I take it back in. Power steering fluid is full and the Aamco guy he has no idea as to what could cause the noise. He has never worked on this type of car before. It is still under warranty. What part on the transmission could cause it to whine? It is weird that it will not whine when it is neutral and I rev the engine, but if I put it in park or in gear it will whine like crazy. I seem to believe it is transmission too?

Re: Whining noise when rpms increase
If the whine goes away in neutral, but is there in all the other gears, it has to be a trans issue.

Re: Whining noise when rpms increase
Yep I agree with Tblake I think some rework is needed on your trans. Whats the fluid look like is it getting a gray purple color to it or is nice and red?

Re: Whining noise when rpms increase
You would think that 2 different Aamco Transmission dealers and a Pontiac dealership could not diagnose and fix the problem. Thanks for reading and keep sending me your thoughts.
