2001 temp gauge/fans

My 2001 Impala's temp gauge sometimes goes to zero when I know its warm. When this happens the cooling fans turn on high and the a/c will not engauge. Any help? Also the check engine light does not come on.

I would imagine your car is still under warranty. I'd take it in to the dealer. You have a wiring problem. Could be a coolant sensor for the gauge, relay or even the ecm. The vehicle ground have to checked too. Good Luck.

I have a 2001 and the Low Coolant light came on at about 32000 miles and stayed on.... nothing wrong.... Dealer replaced sensor and now at 51000 it is back on solid as a rock.

That is absolutely scary... I had the exact same thing happen to me with my 2001, also at 32,000 and 51,000 miles.

This time, after replacing the sensor I'm still legitimately losing coolant at a slow but noticeable rate. It isn't leaking on the ground either... it may be leaking into the combustion chambers.

Question Re: Re: 2001 temp gauge/fans

I retopped everything off + about a pint and am going to watch to see if it looses any over the next week or so. Light has gone back to a on again off again kick, sometimes it starts "ON" and then goes "OUT" sometimes it will start "OFF" and then come "ON" and then goes "OUT" Temp Gauge never moves higher or lower after it reaches normal operating temperature so it's got to be the sensor.... Took it back to Chevy and of course they said that the replaced part only has a 12 mo 12000 mi warranty.... So next one is on me...... I have another post here about the Bumping/popping/clatter felt in the steering wheel on what seems like the left front or in the steering column. Have you had the same problem ? I have the sedan with the upgraded abs brake package.

I have the sedan with abs, not sure if it's an upgraded package or not. I haven't had any problems with the steering, but then I was in an accident at about 46,000 miles and had a lot of the front of the car replaced.

Re: 2001 temp gauge/fans

I have a 2001 chevy impala, with a cooling fan and a temperature gauge problem. It is an erratic problem. Sometimes the temerature gauge doesnt register at all;and the cooling fans operate constantly. One day it works fine, the next day it doesnt work at all. Problem becoming more consistent.Coolant temp sensor ohms out okay..could the BCM or PCM be the problem?HELP! Dealer did not have a clue over the phone.
