Finally got my y pipe on...

it makes an obnoxious blappling noise until 2500 rpm. it's fast as hell but i'm not totally happy about how it sounds. anyone with a y pipe and cat-back know what i'm talkin about? i'm hopng it'll get a little quieter after the pipe gets some exhaust resin built up inside.

Y Pipe + Cat Back = Noise, it will not get quieter.

Y Pipe + Stock = Just a slight change of tune, not really heard inside the car.

How was the install. Did u install it yourself or a shop did it for you? Im planning on getting one next week. Did it come with new bolts and gaskets. Just curious how long will it take to install the pipe? thanx. o btw did you reset your ecu after u put on ur y pipe. People say u get the maximum gains by doing that.

i had a shop do it, but only cuz the bolts were so damn rusted on. the cat gets so hot sometimes the metal fuses. since you have a 99 you're bolts probably aren't as bad as mine, all it came with were the 2 metal o-rings and a new gasket. if you can get the bolts off easily the removal of the old pipe and the new install should be done in less than 1 1/2hours, even less if you have an impact gun and a universal pivotal socket attachment for it. i didn't reset my ecu. the only reason to do that is if the Check engine light comes on so the maxima's ecu can "relearn" how to drive with the new mod. plus i have a 95 which is an obd-1 ecu so i don't think those have to be reset. the obd-2 chips are the ones with all the extra programming they might have to be reset.

there were a few places where the exhaust rattled where it never had before. i guess all the air moving through now makes the exhaust move a lot more. one place it rattled was where the b pipe for my cat-back hit the heat-shield above it and the other part further down the b-pipe hit the actual frame of my car. nothing a heat shield and wrap couldn't subside. i wish i had gotten my y earlier. best 160 bills ever spent

I just bought my y-pipe and had it installed. Should have done this a long time ago. Nice little rumble with a big, big, big rumble at WOT. Love it.

It is not hard with the right tools, but I was worried about rusted bolts, so I took it to a shop for the installation.

Me and my father started installing it ourselves until we got to the "cat" The bolts were impossible to take out. We ended up taking it to a local shop and getting the bolts loosened. Then we finished the job later.
