My 04 Durango (5.7) apears to be leaking oil out of the rear end. I noticed an oil sport on the garage floor. The oil is clear, so it was alot hard to spot at first. Does anybody else out there have the same problem? Thanks for the help.

Re: 04 leaking rear end
Is it the axle seal(s) or the pinion seal?

Re: 04 leaking rear end
I think it is in the pinion seal. How can I tell the difference?

Re: 04 leaking rear end
The pinion seal is behind the yoke that the drive shaft bolts to. The axle seal would be wet near the brake backing plates.

Re: 04 leaking rear end
It is definitly the pinion seal. Just wondering if this is a big problem. I know I have to get it fixed. Its not good to be leaking anything. Thanks

Re: 04 leaking rear end
Keep an eye on the fluid level. There should be a rubber plug in the diff cover. It doesn't take much to leave a pretty good size spot but it can't hurt to at least check to make sure the rear diff is full.
