Shot peen B16A Rods...any troubles?

Hey guys,

I just wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with Shot Peen B16A? I've heard that they turn brittle? Does anyone have experience with this? If you could help out, i have a swap soon and i wondering if i should just get some aftermarket rods?

Thanks.

Just to add tho that my engine is modified. I have higer comp. I think 11.5-11.8. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Well they shouldn't turn brittle because of the the shot peening. Did you just hear about this from 1 person or was it the result of a shops work?

Rgacke,

I've heard from like about 3 or 4 ppl. But i've read in some articles that the connecting rod bearing cap end will start too warp. I'm not too sure if this will happen but i'm just afraid of damage too the engine if the rods fail.

I'm just thinking for peace of mind that i should just get some new rods. I'm really stressing that i have to get some new rods. I just don't want to throw a rod bearing or rebuild the engine.

ok, first off, if you go to a competent shop that does shot-peening, ther will be no problem with any failures. the shot peening process is like forging, only with little beads instead of a huge forge. it gets rid of stress cracks and hardens the surface of the rod, so unless you find a bad shop, there shouldnt be problems, and if the shop is good, they should back up their work anyway.

Parker,

I hope the place that i brought my rods to know what they are doing. I'm sure that they will back up there work. But what i'm worried about is the fact if something happens to the rods when the engine is running. The rods fail or something? I just want to be on the safe side than not too be.
