Exclamation Floorboard repair a concern???

I called a guy about a CRX today, and asked what had been done to it, and he said he replaced the floorboards along with some other stuff, so i asked him why and he said because it was rusting through. He said he had new metal welded in and repainted and everything. So it sounds as if it should be good now, but the question is do I want a CRX that has had the floorboards replaced?

It's a 1988 CRX Si, 5spd, no rust, white, 17" ADR 5 spoke rims, and 188,000 kms. He's asking $7900. The price is a little high but CRX's in good condition here go for a hella lot. Its also had the CV joints replaced, the interior is in good condition, and he replaced the rocker panels as well.

Tell me what you think, im somewhat concerned about these "new" floorboards targeting rust at the weld's. So fill me in guys, what do I want?

first off the price WOW its high. but the new floorboards is a plus. you shouldng have a problem with them rusting on the welds if it was done right. i would get the companys name that did it, and see if you can get some opinions on that company. if the person did the welding himself i might be a little concerned, but just get under the car and check it out.

Ya man stock CRX's with lower miles here in Saskatchewan go for a freaking killing, it sucks. And its hard to find a stock CRX as well, all this one has is wheels, and from what i hear they are the exact wheels I wanted. Its supposed to run good, its an Si, and its an 88 (best year i hear). It has no rust, lower kilometers, and clean interior. So i think it would be an alright deal, I might go look at it tommorow or the next day. Maybe I can talk the guy down in price a bit hopefully. I'll see what happens though.

Does anyone else have any opinions on a new floorboard being welded in??

Well actually the only point I can think of is that its supposed to be the lightest of the Si's, and maybe something about the brakes. I could be wrong though, if someone could correct me.

US dollars the price would be around $4900. The reason they cost so much here is that everyone wants them and they are fairly rare, so ya.

I had my rocker panels repaired. Like what was said earlier, as long as it was done correctly, it shouldnt be a problem. It would be best if you could take a look at them, and see for yourself.

yea main concern is the welds, pull up the carpet and check em. another concern is the body might have twisted a bit, if he took em all out at once and didnt brace the car, most likely there could b some warpage, also it can warp with the welding cuz of all the heat unless he spread the heat evenly. best bet is 2 check all the door jams and what-not and make sure it lines up, that would b my concern cuz i know when i did my buddys mini we welded cross supports in 2 keep it from flexin.
also... make sure the underside is Under-coated or it'll rust lika bitch again.... not fun

Say I buy this CRX, and the floor rusts through a second time, how much would it cost to have new floor boards welded in again, and done right?

I was thinking if I ever found 88 CRX shell without rust, i could take it, paint it the way i wanted, swap everything over and have a mint rebuilt CRX.

heres the problem. its hard to find a place that would do something like that because of "LIABILITY". so if you did find a place that would do it its going to be expensive. i can give you a good example. i had an 87 maxda 626, and the rear strut towers rusted through, so the rear end fell to the ground. and there was only 1 place in town that would do it, and they charged a 1000 bucks for the repair, so the floor boards would probaly around 1000 or more.

Good point, well, depending on if the guy did a good job or not, would you buy the car if you were me?

I'm also worried because I live in Canada, and the harsher climate might cause the weld to rust sooner. Just a thought.

This is annoying me because a stock CRX is so hard to find around here, bah.
