Porsche Cayenne S vs BMW X5 4.6iS

These two set the standards for on-road performance in an SUV - or should that be SAV? The X5 is widely reckoned to look better but the Cayenne hands it its butt off-road and more usefully on the tarmac , though the beemer shades acceleration... which one do you prefer, regardless of cost etc...

cheers

J

I just had to go with the Porsche. I don't know if this is the right way to think, but I figure that Porsche = higher grade of cars than BMW, the Porsche also = higher grade SUV. I think they are both very nice vehicles, but interior, off-road capability, and the Porsche nameplate make me pick the Cayenne.

for onroad performance, the cayenne S is just as quick as a RX-7 FD3S twin turbo 0-60 in 5.6 seconds now thats wicked fast for a SUV. its a half second faster then its next closest rival, the infiniti FX45 can do that in 6.3 seconds. then coming up third its the bimmer at 6.5 seconds. of course the bimmer was the first SUV to be even that quick. then the porsche came, then the infiniti. for me i would get the porsche, the interior is dead sexy. its good at of roading and its fast on road as well.

That right there should be reason enough for people to pick the Cayenne. He simply stated the facts and proved which is the better vehicle. Of course, everyone has their oppinions.

thank you thank you supercarman. but alittle off topic. call me crazy if you must, but i would also pick the infiniti FX45 over the X5. in my opinion it looks better then the X5 and has a nicer more modern industrial looking interior, and is faster then the bimmer while costing less.

Wow .. tough choice ... ... I love Porsche SUV or SAV or whatever .. but I don't like the Cayenne exterior style ... and I like the X5 exterior style and so so for the interior ... a little bit to bland and not much space for the rear passanger ..
But I have seen Volvo and not yet see the new Nissan SUV ..
I like the Volvo body style and the interior too .. but the engine is not as good as X5 or Nissan SUV or Cayenne .. so I can't choose it right now ... hehehheheh ..

true... those things were deceptively fast.... but then again, it "doesn't carry the prestige" of the aformentioned three.

The Cayenne- end of competition- the best SUV offroad, the best onroad, the fastest SUV ever, bold handsome (IMHO) looks and a luxurious interior fit for a king

i would pick the GMC typhoon over the cayenne

its a classic collectors car for $15k that still holds the title as fastest stock SUV in the world (until the cayenne turbo comes out . . . well then u can upgrade turbos on the typhoon), its offroad and practicality capabilities are as good as any other SUV out there, it looks great, and it can be rebadged as a normal jimmy for the ultimate sleeper appearance

cayenne wins hands down maybe to u, but theres still others who prefer a more raw and classic SUV

The ONE and only AM General Hummer, none of this H2, H3, H4 crap. TOW missile launchers and a 30 cal mchine gun as 'options' are pretty raw if you ask me.

I think that the Cayennes greatest downfall is it's lack of torque against the X5 4.6iS- but that will all be solved with the Turbo
