Still having turn signal problems

1999 jeep cherokee, I was having problems with when the left turn signal was turned on, both rear signals would flash like the emergency flashers were on. We replaced the multi switch on the steering column, and now the left signal works as it should, but now the when the right signal is activated, both signals flash like the emergency flashers are on. What the hell? We checked all bulbs, and they are all good. Any suggestions now?

Re: Still having turn signal problems

WOW Dude, YOU SURE BROKE SOMETHIN' J/K Thats is weird man, I unfortunatly have nothing constructive to say I just wanted to weigh-in to say damn... good luck. I guess I would check to see if there are multiple flashers or a secondary tyoe device that could be electronicly related. I have a 87 cherokee and I vaguly (sorry about the terrible spelling) remember someone talking about there being flashers and anpother thing that looked like a flasher but had a fundimental difference. Im gonna look through some of the past questions here in the blog to try and clear it up a bit. I guess as unlikley as it sounds maybe you have a crossed wire or shorted but me saying it doesn't help much does it. Talk to ya later dude.

Re: Still having turn signal problems

On the next page there is a problem someone had with a 96 and there is some good back and forth there you should check it out. His problem was fixed by replacing a turn signal fuse witch doesnt sound like it is your problem but maybe somewhere in the banter you can find a better idea etc. F--- the law man they can't hold you down because of some petty little bulds don't work, RIGHT? DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!! Just kidding.

Re: Still having turn signal problems

Your year uses a combination hazard/turn signal flasher that could be your problem. It's located in steering column. Since you've taken it apart already to do the switch, the flasher should be easy. Here's a pic (courtesy of Hubs97xj on NAXJA).i It's the gray "relay" plugged into that black connector with foam tape on it.
