Problem with code scanners

I have a 95 Buick Lesabre 3.8 and I'm looking to purchase a code scanner $200.00 range that will read my vehicles OBD system. It seems 99% of the low end code scanners the auto parts stores use will not read my cars obd system because they support OBD 2- 96 and up vehicles only. My car is OBD 1 certified but has a OBD 2 plug under the dash . I believe 95 was a GM experimental conversion year when they switched from OBD 1 to OBD2 systems .So far only the high end code readers such as Snap on etc. in the $1,500 price range are the only ones that have been able to read my codes, this is is way out of my price range. I spoke with Equus they informed me they had no scanners that would work with my vehicle ,Actron said they might have a model that will work with my vehicle but not positive. I have a 94 Park Avenue and this car has the OBD-"1.5" system like yours.

I currently use a Actron CP9185 and the unit works great. I have used a CP9150 before and that unit also had no problems reading the car.

I have a Actron CP9150 got it of ebay for about $150 or a little less brand new. It reads OBD 1&2 and reads live data. Almost pays for itself in one use. I got mines about two years ago.

But looking onto ebay or amazon it seems that the price has went up and it's cheaper to buy the Actron CP9180 which is more advance and also reads OBD 1 codes or in your case OBD 1.5.

The Actron CP9150 was discontinued & hard to find new, hence the price increase. You may want to try the latest edition, which is a CP9190 & Click on redirect.

OBD 1.5 ! That is very funny... I have never heard it called that ,but it indeed is very good way of describing my vehicles system. I will try the Actron cp 9185,I can purchase it up from Amazon for around $205.00 .I'm sure the cp9190 may also work, but it seems to be closer to the $300.00 price range. The cp9185 is the model Actron's customer service suggested and thought it may work with my Buick. Thank you so much for your feedback and reponses to my thread. At least now I can purchase this scanner with confidence knowing it will likely work with my car's odd obd system,and I will not have to use it for a paper weight.
