with some swift talking you could talk just about any officer out of thinking your engine is illegal if your nice to him. In a court of law in front of a judge it could be a different story. On roadside if they say something... you can either say a couple things to make it look not so bad.
First off you could just say you turbocharged your engine, if they are popo are aggravated about your mods. If its the actual engine they eyeball and know didn't come in 240sx(how many cops will know that) you can always just say in coherence with engine swapping laws, I swapped in a newer model engine into my car from another Nissan, thats all u have to say....if they ask what kinda....tell em a 200sx..... then technically u can have a play on words if they wanna get smart. Cause are US 200sx has a fwd sr20de not the same engine though LOL......and it also works that u have a EURO 200sx with a rwd SR20DET lol. I do not believe that the SR20DET rwd engine is listed as a legal engine in the United States......yes they have a list somewhere. Because the engine did not come standard in any cars that made it to our shores..... they never did any tests or approved it. I know atleast one law about engine swaps is that u need to use an approved one(even in kit cars)..... and you cannot put an older engine into a newer chassis..... like a 1985 engine into a 1990 chassis. |

I used to live in California then my family decided to move to where we are now-KANSAS...
BIG difference between CA and KS and the city that I live in,"Wichita,"is small compared to cities in CA Here in KS the cops arent really too strict about what mods are done to a car. They just dont want ppl street racing. They were cracking down pretty hard but thay calmed down a bit. Some dumbass died recently racing against some POS car so they're gonna get tough on racing again. Oh well I dont race Like I said before, there arent any shops that do SR swaps here let alone sell parts for them. F*** it I'll just special order everything and install everything myself with some help from my dad(when I get an SR20DET)

if your in ca then things might be different but a couple of my friends here in va who have sr's have gotten pulled over. sometimes the cops are dicks about it and sometimes they are cool about it. 1 cop actually pulled us over just so he could look under the hood. then he told my friend that he chose a good motor
the cops daily ride when he wasnt working was a turbo gsr. that cop was cool. then there was another cop who was just plain stupid. when my friend lifted the hood and the cop saw nissan on the valve cover, he didnt think twice about it. if the cop is in a really shitty mood then he can give you a ticket for it if he wants to and you will have to show up in court for it. the only way to get around that would be to remove the sr and put the ka back in for then. here in va if it's a small thing you get pulled for, like exhaust, and you have to show up in court, sometimes the judge will just ask for a pic of the old stock exhaust back on there. this might work for engines as well, but i doubt it. you should be fine with the sr. there are plenty here in the us already

hummm well i got pulled over for my exhaust before and all i had to do was go to court and pay a fine... i think it was like $75 bux or sumthing. I didnt have to put back the old one. Now i think the engine is a diffrent story your gona have to put back the stock one and i dont think anyone would like to do that...
Ohh hey (remember me?) did you just whored up the entire 240 forum!!!!! BUT WELCOME TO AF!!!!!

Wow, its so different in the states compared to Canada. Cops couldnt care less about what kind of engine you had or have now. You could swap any engine into pretty much any car. In reality you could shoe-horn a hugeass-gas guzzling-overpowered-slightly more polluting engine in your car and the government and police wouldnt even bat an eye. I couldnt imagine living in CA. Unfortunately we do have the american version of emissions testing expcept we call it Aircare. Ive been thru aircare the last 3 years with a different engine then what is on my VIN number and they havent even noticed. You think they might say "Hey this thing has 2 cyclinders more then its supposed to?!" but no they dont. I feel for you guys down south.
Nick.
