Pics of the new Caprice

1984 Caprice Classic. 128,000 miles. Has NO options, not even a passenger side mirror!! Overall great condition and has almost no rust "in hard to reach areas." I have a feeling i might swap everything out of my current caprice into this because its easier than repairing the rust on mine. Kills me to do such a thing to a car i've put so much work into but wudya gunna do its all for the better.

Re: Pics of the new Caprice

Yeah thats quite a base model, almost like the Impala for that year. I was talkin to a guy who claimed he had an 88' caprice n would take what i had to offer him, kept sayin he was gona call me back, i was gonna offer him $800, i think he was full of sh** the whole time. good deal you got though doesnt look in bad shape either.

Ditto.
You're very lucky; it looks pretty good.

Driven in severe weather most of the year (Arizona 100+ degrees during summer heat or in wet weather especially in harsh monsoons). About 30/70 highway/city driving.

Re: Pics of the new Caprice

Yup, today made me realize how lucky i am to have this car now...with the recent torrential rain we've been having in MA my trunk has been leaking like a siv and now i have leaks in the front..too much work to repair so its easier if i change over to the newer caprice which has NO leaks.

Well lets see..

Tranny: $850
Opti: $140
Coil: $45 (MSD)
Valve Covers: $199 (Don't ask! I screwed up on that one)
Tires: $400
PCM: $120
Alternator: $99
Head Unit: $75
Another Opti: $1000!!!!! (If you want to know how THAT happened, hang on until I'm done)
Headlights: $65
ICM: $90
TPS: $25
Intake: $300
Radiator: ?? (I forget now)
AC Compressor: $300

ok, for that second opti. The car randomly shut off within 10 minutes, I couldn't figure out what was causing it, everything seemed to check out. I go to a AAA mechanic, who kept saying this and that, I was like, whatever, just fix it.. He replaced the opti harness, said mine was bad.. Ok, but he said it still stalled. I told him to take that off the charge, but he insisted it was bad. Ok, I told him I wanted my old harness back. He charged me $350 for that freakin pigtail. Then the Opti for whatever, it was never shown on the receipt, but I assume somewhere between opti and LABOR was about it.. So 1K total. I paid and called them "effing ripoffs"..

Car stumbled all the way home. THEY DROVE THE CAR AROUND TO LOW GAS!! I had a full tank in that thing.

Re: Pics of the new Caprice

when i was shopping around for a box caprice, i must have looked at at least ten of them, they were all rusted in the same spots, out of all those only one had no rust under that long panel by the trunk, only reason i didnt get that one is because the moron put in a sunroof and gooped about three tubes of silicone all around it, looked like crap and like it leaked pretty bad too, AND he was driving around with barely any of the engine's vital fluids

Re: Pics of the new Caprice

There are also still plenty of good rust-free Caprices here in AZ -- just so long as you look around enough especially in areas with lower-income (I guess because they are pretty dependable and fairly cheap??) I see them often in neighborhoods in Mesa, AZ and Phoenix, AZ.
