Ordered OBD II Engine scanner

I just ordered a Actron CP9410 Engine scanner, it is supposed to plug into my 1996 eclipse and tell me a code that reflects my check engine light.

Apparently I heard that you have to pay or something to figure out the code, which I learned after I ordered it.

Where can I get a list of codes for our cars?!

1996 mitsubishi eclipse gs 2.4 L SPYDER

Weird. Never heard of that before. Does it give the actual code though? Just match up with this:

here is a link to the product,

check it out... It seems like it will pay for itself in no time.

http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9410-.../dp/B000YIW5VA

I dont know where it plugs in, or what types of codes it will output.. It may output codes of which I can read only if i pay the company.. and not factory codes from the car.

Re: Ordered OBD II Engine scanner

It plugs into the port near your steering column. That would be really stupid if they charge for you to find out what the code means.

It is really stupid that they charge you, its business. They are in the game to make money, so every time it reads a code you have to go to their data base and pay to look it up.

Its like buying a microwave and then paying to use it every time... so stupid.

I hope this helps me resolve my check engine light problem, does anyone have one of these or have you used one of these?

Re: Ordered OBD II Engine scanner

Autozone does code reading for free and they tell you what the code means. So that product seems like a bit of a rip off.

In the 1g (obd1) its to the left of your left leg just below the dash. I'm assuming similar location for the 2g, not not positive.

Re: Ordered OBD II Engine scanner

2g is on the right side of the steering column, where your right knee is while driving, right against the center console. Look under there and you'll see it. It's the only thing there
