07 odyssey transmission question, is this normal?
We recently got a 2007 odyssey, and the other day, I noticed something odd with the transmission.
When the van is cold/just started, if I shift from reverse to drive(after backing out of the drive way), it seems to shift immediately. But when the van is warmed up(after driving for a wile), and I shift from reverse to drive or drive to reverse, there is a noticeable delay between moving the shifter and the transmission actually catching. I checked the fluid level, and it seemed to be fine. I’m just wandering if this delay when warm is normal, of it we should take it in to have it looked at? Thanks, Keith

Re: 07 odyssey transmission question, is this normal?
most of the time its normal, most often when a customer complains of this it turns out to be bad motor mounts. Some delay is normal, if a tech notices a longer than normal delay, usually they check the motor mounts and find them broken. If the delay is longer than normal, and the mounts are fine then its likely an internal trans problem.
most honda dealers would simply price a transmission out for you at that point. my advice, as a honda tech at a dealer, is take it in and have it looked at. If they find nothing then at least make sure you keep up with your trans fluid changes. honda transmissions really need fluid changed every 30K. I dont care what honda says, 30K should be the service limit. Its the way the trans is designed, its a constant mesh transmission, meaning every clutch in the trans is slipping all the time. They arnt like most rwd domestic tranmissions (those arnt constant mesh)

Re: 07 odyssey transmission question, is this normal?
thanks for the info.
the van will be due for an oil change in a couple hundred miles, I'll check out the motor mounts wile I'm under it. Also, if you don't mind, I have another question about something that I noticed. Is it normal to be able to feel the trans down shift when coming to a stop?

Re: 07 odyssey transmission question, is this normal?
yes its normal, all cars do that.
If its a severe thud then check the motor mounts.
