What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

Hi guys, just a random thought, but wondering what people consider should be in say a top 5 cars in every self-respecting modeller's collection.

I would kick it off with the 1/24 Tamiya Ferrari F40. Yep, needs a lot of work to be done right, can be built out of the box and a good result had, but is enough there to encourage more detail to be added....in which case an awesome version can be had... I consider this to be a "must have" in the top 5....

Perhaps up there as well is the Ferrari Enzo (no, not just partial to Ferrari) but it seems freakin AWESOME as well....

Interested to know what others would put up there.

Re: What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

I'd say everyone must have at least one 1/24 Tamiya 911 GT2 (either Race or Club Sport version). The kit is very well made, the roundness of the body parts makes it easy to polish without burning the edges, and the BBS wheels are to die for!

Re: What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

Well, I guess it would depend on the type of cars/motorsport you're into. From my list which would be more Japanese/F1/rally it would be a Mclaren F1 car (MP4-4,5,6, etc.), a Ferrari F1 (F310, F2000, F2001, etc.), a generation of Skyline (KPGC, R32, R33, R34, R35, etc.), a Ferrari street car (F40 or F50, however, I do love the FXX even though it's not technically "street"), and either an Impreza or Evo.

Keeping in mind these are all injection plastic based kits, not resin. If it were resin, well, it'd probably be WAY different.

I would have to say at least ONE wal mart kit. Just for the sake that they are cheap. Everyone has to start somewhere. :P

Why, every kit in my collection is a "must have"! If I had to break it down to just one? Probably Ferrari 250 GTO or SWB.

Re: What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

Hi,

this is a thread like "What model must Tamiya/Fujimi/... bring".

It depends on the interests of each modeler, what is a "must have" kit for him. So why should a Ferrari be a "must have" for a modeller that is interested in US cars??

I guess in the course of time weŽll see here all interesting models ;-)

Re: What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

if youre fan or not - i assume that many many modelers have a mustang kit at home. many companies, many models, many years (even tamiya has one).. so many kits out there..

than most of modelers have porsche / ferrari. we know why. (even i built enzo and i am not a ferrari fan)

if you want to know what is superb model kit, than any modern (2002+) tamiya moto gp model should be in your display case.

generaly you have to build a tamiya kit. there you will find out, what is a quality kit. i recommend especially newer japanese car (like nissans r34, r35, road, jgtc - great kits).

most of the time i speak about tamiya as you can see. but its normal because of quality. its a must have topic, not what i like most - thats the reason..

Re: What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

Thanks for all the replies guys

Matador 88 - youve summed the point of this up well....

I've got a Tamiya Williams FW24 in clear with extra parts from... I don't like F1, don't follow F1 racing, but when I saw this kit in the local hobby shop, I just had to have it.... I think some kits just give an "experience" and there is something appealing about them even though it may not be your main subject, hell, I've even got a Italeri Freightliner truck and a 1:35 Abrams M1A1 Battle Tank to be built :P

Re: What do you consider a "Must Have" model in a collection

Hmm these are my must have kits... most of them I have already but I would like to get used kits on ebay for spares. I'd like to make detailed versions of these kits and really they are the only one's I have interest in building. They are my priority and then I think i may be done with modeling. They are:

Lamborghini Diablo VT( Revell, extra detail, kit bash)
Lamborghini Diablo MY99 ( Fujimi)- kit bash with another revell vt diablo)
Jaguar XJ220 (Tamiya)
Ferrari F50 (Tamiya)
Ferrari F40 (Tamiya)
Lamborghini Countach QV ( Fujimi)- I've already made some significant progress with this one, but it will take years I think
Toyota Supra (Tamiya 1993)
Porsche 911 (Fujimi)- Not sure which 911 I'd want but I know it's a must have for me, preferably 80's-90's

Outside looking in:
Acura NSX (Tamiya)
Mazda RX-7(Tamiya)

The tamiya enzo maybe on the list but I don't have a crush on it like I do the others.
