Question Question about ClearCoating

How long should i wait after i spray my car, to Clear coat it? Im thinking about 3 days so the paint can air out, i dont want to risk making the paint crack when i clear coat it. I just started painting my SkylineR33 NismO with LightGunMetal Spray. Thanx

I would say to wait a week, just to be safe. Are you using the same brands of paint?

The advice regarding Tamiya clears is, clearcoat it within half an hour to one hour after the final wet coat of color, or wait 30 days for it to air out and then apply.

I have no idea. I'm just passing along what both Pat Covert from Scale Auto Cars Magazine and several reputable members of this board have said. I myself have sprayed within half an hour to an hour with no harm effects.

I see the logic here. If they are both the same brand, they should take about the same time to air out, so if the body colour is given 30 minutes to harden a bit the clear coat wqould just be like another coat of the body colour.

Correct me if I am wrong though.

Shorty, I'm not picking on you because of your reputation, but come on JUST spray it.

The reason why you'd spray clear half an hour after a wet coat of the base coat is so the two paints have a chance to bond, and then they can "gas out" together.

30 days seems a bit extreme. A good way to tell is if the basecoat is hard enough that your fingernail can't scratch it, then you can clearcoat it with no problems.
