Question Injector replacement

Hello everyone, I was thinking of replacing a bad injector. My questions are: Is it nessasary to relieve the pressure in the fuel system? How difficult of a job is this? 95' Chevy Lumina 3.1 V6.

You will relieve the pressure in the system whether you mean to or not. To replace an injector you have to remove the fuel rails first so you can get at them, which requires removing the pressure regulator, which requires disconnecting the fuel lines.

Does your fuel line have a Schraeder valve (like a tire valve) before the pressure regulator? If so, then its easy. Let the car sit for several hours so the engine naturally relieves some of the fuel pressure. Then get yourself a nice big rag and position it under and around the valve. Then put that cigaratte out and use a Bic pen or something to push the valve in. The pressurized gas will spit out the valve and be caught in the rag. Don't worry, its not like a gallon comes out or anything...

If you don't have a Schraeder valve on the line, then put the rag under where the line connects to the regulator and disconnect the line. No matter what you're going leak some gas and you're going to get it on yourself hehehehe.
