2.4L Water Pump Replacement
So my trustly old 1999 Alero with 191000 miles on it decided to start to leak coolant. I looked and sure enough it was the waterpump.
So like any idiot would do, I ripped into it. 10 hours later I had it back together . Still looking for leaks, but so far it is looking like there are no coolant leaks after the replacement, i'll cry if there is. So on to the reason for this post. Whoever the engineer was that engineered up the placement and mounting of that water pump needs to be drug out into the street and shot. After I finished I called a dealer just to see what the cost would be, they said it would be about $1000 to replace it. You have got to be out of your god damn mind. $1000 to replace a $50 water pump all because someone that had never changed the oil in their own car decided they know the best location for a water pump on a new engine design. So really this post was just for me to vent and to warn anyone that this is not the easiest to do job. However it was easier to pull the engine out of the car then it is to replace this water pump. Enjoy, and I hope this new water pump can go another 190k miles. |
