2002 Malibu Will Not start

Standard 2002 Malibu

I have played with the security thing. even installed a bypass.

I took off the air intake and open the intake valve and found it was pretty dirty in there. So after getting it started (Seems like a fluke) I get to walmart and leave the car on and my wife goes in and gets some carb cleaner. I pray it in there and its horrible. After enough Carb cleaner and the run off looks cleaner I get it started. Seem cool. so I leave it for 20 minutes and come back and it will not turn over. I spray some cleaner in it and it tries to turn but will not stay started, Just dies out every time. I check the valve that looks like a valve on a tire and check to see if anything sprays out. It does but only if I have been trying to start it. If I let it sit then there is little to nothing. So I prime it try to start it and nothing.

After I turn it off I hear what sounds like a gurgle sound around the Carb. I feel the vibration on the metal line just below the carb. (Section "A" on the attached Picture).

I am at a true loss of what else I can do and I am out of work so I have little to no money with more going out then in.

I know its not the security because after I try and start it. and turn it back off then turn it to ON only the Theft light will go out with in seconds.
When I turn the car to ON I hear the fuel pump. Its getting gas, the carb looks clean. I don't know what else to do. This is our only car.

If I knew a 1/4 about cars as I do Computers I would be set and be able to fix this but Do not know much about cars. If I can see it I can figure it out but this one has got me in a super bind and my wife is becoming a pain to live with, with no car.

Can anyone give me some advice about this? I can take more pictures or try other things I just dont know what else to do

Thanks in advanced

Does your check engine light come on? If so, you can get the codes read for free at Autozone or Advanced Auto. They may also let you use a fuel pressures tester for free too. Check for a good spark too. Here's some more help for no start problems.

No engine Light comes on except when I have it on the ON position. It does not come on when I try to crank it. Its been setting for about an hour and there is no pressure. Is that normal. Oh and the Airfilter casing is not attached so I can see the Carb intake

Put your air duct back on because that might be affecting your mass air flow sensor. What your spraying into is your throttle body. Carburetors haven't been around since 1990. If you can spring for an ignition tester like this it will rule out your coils as a problem.

Careful not to spray carb cleaner on you MAF.

the gurling tube is the line to heater core, don't worry about it.
Yes, you should have pressure at the shcrader after an hour, your fuel pump is probably leaking back, or the injectors or regulator are leaking, unless you have a external fuel leak somewhere. You need to get a gauge and check it trying to start and check after it sits too. Sounds like a lack of fuel to me. Can you hear the fuel pump running? How long since you put a filter on it? If the pump isn't running, smack the tank with a hammer or kick it hard while someone else trys to start it. If the fuel pump strands you on the side of the road ever, this trick will get you back home, but warning, if this works, it will only work about 4 or 5 more times before your pump is trashed beyond tricks, so in short if that gets it, fix it soon.

Re: 2002 Malibu Will Not start

An update:

Still trying to fix this thing and I really really appreciate all the help so far.

I just finished replacing the fuel filter and the old on had black thin liquid (gas) so it needed to be replaced. When taking it off there was gas on both ends coming out. I primed it using that oval port you see in the picture. I got it started after a few tries left it running for about 5 minutes. Checked for leaks. None.

After I turned it off I left it for a few minutes and it will not start.

Arrrrrrg.

Does that give any other ideas?

air filter - REPLACED
Fuel Filter - REPLACED
Intake Cleaned!
Security Replaced and theft light is off.

Im now at a complete loss.

Thanks again

Re: 2002 Malibu Will Not start

Test your fuel pressure. Autozone or Advanced Auto may let you use a fuel pressure tester. Call them. Or, you can buy a fuel pressure tester at Harbor freight for under $20.00.

If it is the pressure, How do I fix that? Or is it something I will not be able to do at home?
