2001 Grand Prix HVAC

Hello, I have a 2001 Grand Prix with the 3800 Series II. When I drive the car, the driver's side temperature control is set all the way to cold and has hot air coming out of it. If I move the temperature slider up and back down, the air cools off for a little bit, then goes back to being hot again. Every time I move the temperature slider up and back down, it cools off for a while. Anyone got any ideas??

Also, the fan switch only works on 5, but I have read that is probably a bad ignition switch.

Re: 2001 Grand Prix HVAC

The temperature blend doors (left and right) are controlled by the instrument panels control module. These stepper motors also have potentiometers to report back there current position. Probably in stock at your local GM dealer since they are know to fail.

You could first try to recalibrate the system as it can be done without a scan tool. Removing the IPCM fuse for a minimum of 60 seconds resets the HVAC system.

The fuse block you want is the one inside the car. Not 100% on which fuse so to be safe remove both the "I/P-IGN" 10amp and the "HVAC CTRL" 20amp.

If it's still a problem, replace the motor. Get the new part first and you'll see how it installs, a small cream colored box on the left side (gas pedal area) of the heater case under dash.

By the way, your fan issue is the blower resistor, also mounted on the heater box but on the right side bottom.

i had the fan switch only working on 5 issue, i just replaced my ignition switch and it works great again. my ac only blew cold on the passenger side of my car when i had the ac working on 5 only. im hopeing now that my ig stwich is fixed it will work on both sides now. my car does not have driver/passenger temp controls but i do think the stepper motors etc are still in there.
