ABS warning light on 99 Beetle

I have a 99 Beetle with a 2.0, 5 speed. 108k Started the car and the ABS light came on. The red brake light came on blinking and chimed. Brakes seemed to function fine. Fluid level is good. Next day no warning lights and everything operated normal. It has been turned off and on several times with no warning lights. Should the car be taken in for a check or just wait for it to reappear?

Sounds like the brake light switch is malfunctioning. Have you done the recall on the switch?

Re: ABS warning light on 99 Beetle

Thanks for the reply Franco. Yes, the recall has been done. The car has been driven now several times since the warning lights went off. I'm hopeful it was just a fluke and will not return, but just wanted to make sure I'm not overlooking something that may turn around and bite me later. Thanks again!!

Did you know the brake light switch recall is a lifetime recall. If it happens again take it to the dealer and they will do it again for free.
