Leaking Tranny Fluid

My 95 caprice 4.3L V8 is leaking tranny fluid from the two lines that run from the radiator to the tranny. They are leaking where the lines change from metal to rubber and then back to metal again, and it doesnt seem like they can be tightened at these points but i may be mistaken. They are leaking at a decent rate as well so i want to get this fixed as soon as possible because i have already put in a few quarts of tranny fluid. Are these lines sold together? Roughly how much do they cost? If this is something anyone has done, how difficult is it if i wanted to do it myself?

Re: Leaking Tranny Fluid

One of the lines is dirt cheap the other is pricey.

What I do with those is take a dremel cutoff wheel and cut off the aluminum crimp from around the rubber line and then put a couple hose clamps on.

It is a BIG hassle to undo the hard lines from the transmission so this is a MUCH easier way to go.

If the rubber line is in poor shape you can buy it by the foot at the parts store.

Since you are questioning how hard it is I will guess you are a novice and aren't familiar with flaring lines so I would put two hose clamps on each connection.

If uncomfortable with this talk to some local shops, I am sure someone would be willing to do it and it shouldn't take them but an hour.

Wow that is exactly what i was thinking of doing but wasnt sure if it was a good idea. Just seems like a bad design making it all one piece because it is leaking between the metal connector and the hose. Thanks for the help.

you can try placing clamps of the proper size on this aluminum crimp and tighten with a small 1/4 ratchet 5/16 socket ..this should work as the pressure here is very low...after a time the hoses harden and shrink then you get the leaking same with the oil cooler hoses...

I have had success with this for many years now still no drips ..

cuting the crimp off will work so if this don't just cut off as mentioned earlier..then apply those clamps...

Re: Leaking Tranny Fluid

I placed clamps over the metal piece where the hoses go in and no more leaks. Much easier than changing the hoses. Thanks for all the help.
