Re: code 1416 aux. emish. controls

there is a emissions vent solinoid between the cab and the truck bed. they are prone to going bad. a smoke leak detector is the best way to check it. if it is leaking it will turn the light on. check for other leaks in the evap. syatem too

lucky you! you got that california air pump ....this is special just for people where you live....

this air pump fills extra oxygen into the exhaust , this passes thru check valves one on each side of the engine...this then only on cold start gives the cat conveter the needed oxygen to rapidly remove hydrocarbons for the first 5 min of the cold start..

my truck does not have this B/S pump ...but my 96 impala SS does..

you must replace these 2 check valves , then see if the problem goes away....if not replace the pump...

do not replace the pump with out replacing the check valves, as these valves have rubber diaphrams that fail with this amount of useage and when they do the pump gets destroyed...I suspect your not pumping sufficent air and the O2 sensor is reporting this to the PCM/computer..

this pump should be mounted near the passenger side firewall area...remove the hoses ,,,,see water ? If yes these check valves need replacing ..

you can also run engine with the hoses off and see if the exhaust blows out them ..that means there bad..

I never said anything was mounted on the firewall.....

on the passengerside of the engine bay is the air pump location ..then on each side of the engine are these check valves...did you remove the hoses and inspect, troubleshoot as I recommended...?

do you have a manual ? any Idea what I'm describing ?

you have no idea whats going on here ..I suggest you have a repair shop handle this...these check valves are part of the programmed emission controls with your california vehicle..

if you have time and money you should purchase repair manuals and start studing on how these all work...

go to the part store and see what these parts look like ...if you have tools and the ability to properly use them this is an easy task..

if not go to a repair shop ..

Re: code 1416 aux. emish. controls

I dont know about silverados but i have had trailblazers with the same code and since they are mounted on the frame they suck up water and grenade. I would check the pump first then move down the lines.

like I stated with the air pump on the LT1 , the check valves fail this is where the water comes from...all that exhaust condensation gets ramed into the air [electric pump] then it shorts out or just stops...

these valves are only good for 10yrs and should be checked ever year for back pressure/water entering the pump....on the LT1 the air supply for pump is just in front of the MAF so the MAF also gets dirty ...as the exhaust gas goes into the intake which also throws other DTC'S...
I had to buy ac delco check valves because the aftermarket check valves by standard are only 5/8 inch dia..the OEM are 7/8 dia ..so the hoses did not fit correctly on the stardard manufacturers part..

with the pump it was 200.00 total...to fix....
