Re: 96 cherokee distributor replacement

Thanks jdl

I'm pretty sure the shaft bushings are bad. I can push on the distributor and cause it to squeek less. Is it best to replace the entire distributor or will i be able to easily purchase and replace the bushings only. Any advice is appreciated.

Is the hold down mechanism tight? I've never seen dist. bearings or bushings in a partsbook.

Re: 96 cherokee distributor replacement

Yes it is tight, i saw replacement bushings on line but i think they must be for pro rebuilders.
I just replaced the cap and rotor button. No improvement. A remanufactured dist. is $75.00. I think that might be what i'll do. How do i insure the gears will align properly when i install the new one? Is it the direction of the roter button on the new one that i should match up with the old one? It doesen't seem to tough to remove and replace but i don't want to screw something up!
