Castle Nut just spins on lower ball joint
I'm trying to pull the axels out so I got out the trusty old Helm's and started working. I needed to remove the lower ball joint, but first I had to remove the lower castle nut on the suspension. Well it's obviously really really tight so I used a pipe and got it loose. The problem is now it just spins. WTF? Am I missing something here? Is there any way to get this thing off now without cutting it off. I really need to get the Axels out so I can get by B18c1 out and get crackin with this project.

Same thing happened on my CRX, I used a hacksaw to cut a lip in the bottom of the ball joint bolt so I could put a screwdriver in the bolt part and loosten off the nut with a rench.
Alternatively try putting a jack under the control arm to put some pressure on the ball joint and it may grip the bolt part enough to get the nut off. |

I'll have to try that. Are you just suppost to take the things off with a breaker bar or is there some sort of trick to it?

the "trick" is to use a pneumatic impact. try wedging a prybar against lower control arm to pry down on nut while loosening w/ ratchet. sucks to do w/ hand tools, but this should work. btw, i'm a honda tech, i do it all day long.

hey tim ... my dad bought an impact wrench, so if you know anyone who has access to a small compressor we can do that shit. I would offer our compressor, but the one we got now is huge and my dad put it in a cabinet so no movin that.
Although we could figure out a way to get the integra into my backyard ![]() Oh yea, and are we still on for the sacramento meet this weekend? Its gonna be off the heezie. I also found out about an integra meet over in Lodi CA on June 3, so im down to roll with you to that if you got your car done by then.

i had this happen too, drove me freakin crazy....i used a vise grip to hold the bolt...not very smart as you can strip the bolt, but it worked...
it's the castle nut end that is bent..where the threads are that is making it not unscrew easily... i just plan on buying new ball joints soon anyways...the threads were striped a little, but i put a new castle nut on, and it went on no problem! |
