98 Blazer push button 4x4

I have push button 4wd with lights in the buttons. Sometimes the lights work and sometimes they don't. When they don't work I can't switch from 2wd to 4wd. If I have it in 4wd and the lights on the buttons aren't on, then it's stuck in 4wd until the lights come back on and then I can switch back to 2wd. Sometimes I can hit the dash and the lights come back on and then I can switch to 2 or 4. Is this problem in the switch? Took switch out and cleaned and re-installed, worked good for a couple days and then back to sometimes. Would like to fix this before i crack the dash hitting it...lol

As in auto 4W transfer case they are auto 4W.
Transfer case ID is on back of transfer case.
Also the auto4W has a a auto4W burtton on transfer case push buttons.

If you look in the link I posted it tells you all of that.

BEFORE WE COULD TELL YOU HOW TO CHECK FOR CODES WE NEED TRANSFER CASE ID.

Post back ID = what transfer case you have.

Re: 98 Blazer push button 4x4

Follow my thread: 4WD diagnosis; pics. Help.. In a few days, I'll have factory service manual, and will post thorough diagnostics and pics for a '98, along with notated schematics. $5 says it will be a sticky with 10k hits in less than a year, like my vette sticky uh huh

The rsgear links have good info, but you CANNOT do thorough diagnostics with that info there. Most of the articles even say to START with factory spec info, or forget it yup.

Do you have a multimeter?

Re: 98 Blazer push button 4x4

Under the kick panel on the passenger side there should be a control module for the 4wd system. Unplug the connector and check the plug for corrosion. Clean the plug good and hopefully your control module is ok.

Thanks for the input, won't be able to check this till the weekend, but I will check it! Someone (former owner) mounted CB speaker there. hhhmmm could it be as simple as that? I'll keep you informed as to what I find.
