Tapping
Has anyone had problems with tapping in the 3.0 engine. Any easy fixes?

Re: Tapping
Does it sound like a ticking noise? If so, I would bet it's lifter tick. Just so long as it's not a knocking sound.
Lifter tick is not really a big deal. There is a hole for the oil to pass through in the lifter. It get's gunked up with oil deposits and then you get that ticking sound. It's really just an annoyance and nothing is really at risk. If you really want to fix it run some Gunk Motor Flush through the engine. This stuff is really thin so you DON'T want to drive your car with it in there or even rev up the engine. Simply pour a bottle in the crank case and start the car and let it idle for about 10 min. Then, change the oil and the filter. It might take a few oil changes but it works. |

Re: Tapping
Thanks Red Baron,
I will give it a try. I also spoke to a freind who is a mechanic and he suggested I try also adding Trans fluid to the oil as it works as a cleansor and should disolve any dirt that nay be affecting the lifters. Never realized you could mix trans fluid in the crankcase. I will keep you posted |

Yeah, you can use trans fluid. It works the same way as the Motor Flush. It's what I used to use to clean out my engine before I found the Motor Flush which works a lot better. You can expect the ATF to take more oil changes to completely solve the lifter tick. Whichever one you go with, the method is the same and you should only do 1 quart of either. Good luck.
