ram transmissions

Hello, i have a 99 ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.2L engine. the tranny is slipping badly and i am gonna replace it soon. I would like to put in a 4 speed with overdrive if it will fit. Right now it is a 3 speed with OD. i do a little pulling with a stock trailer, car hauler for towing the mud truck and of coarse the boat. I know the new hemis run 4 speed with od but will it fit and the bolt patterm match up? what do you recommend? any suggestions would be much appreciated. My friend has a 2001 ram with the same tranny and problems maybe worse. How hard would it be to convert to a 5 speed manual? I'm pretty that is way above my skill level and not an easy thing to do.

Re: ram transmissions

Your transmission is 4 speed overdrive. The hemi trucks have 5 speed automatics in them.

You could change over to a manual transmission, but is it really worth it? Maybe just trade the truck you have for one with a stick in it?

My advice to you is to just rebuild the transmission from your truck, don't put another one in. You'll save money by just rebuilding it, and you'll know what you have.
