audio steering control (randam dancing)

hi, i have a 98 grand prix.. love the audio on the steering wheel but man can it drive you crazy!!!!! can someone give me some direction with what i might do ... it will change stations randomly and without any consisitancy.. at first i thought ok maybe its sensitive and i brushed by the steering wheel control.... NOPE!! i can have my hands off the wheel, around the wheel, the bottom of wheel, turning a corner, hitting a bump or even just sitting idleing(sp?) anyway, would love to keep the option if theres a simple fix, if not..... i have got to disable it.... im losing my mind...tks.... twyla

Re: audio steering control (randam dancing)

I'm far from an expert, but perhaps it's sticking or shorting out somewhere?

Re: audio steering control (randam dancing)

As with many aging Pontiac's, the OEM steering switch modules suffer from failing button switches resulting in the symptoms you are describing. I replaced my circuit boards and they are as good as new. PM me if you are interested in more info.
