catalytic conrverter

I have a 1992 4.3l v6 s10 blazer, that the catalytic converter is bad. Would that also be the problem with a hard start?

Re: catalytic conrverter

the cat can go bad in three different ways. It can loose its efficiency, become plugged, or brake apart. Knowing how your cat is bad would help.

The hard to start condition may be what caused your cat to go bad. It might help to further explain this problem.

Re: catalytic conrverter

Im not sure what is wrong with the cat. It will not pass emissions testing. But the hard start. Some times it cranks right up, some time it takes about 10seconds to turn over, then it dies. Then it will crank up. I have a new starter and new fuel filter.

Re: catalytic conrverter

I would be curious to see if fuel pressure is bleeding off. If the extended crank happens after a hot soak I would bet that fuel pressure is bleeding off. Either back through the pump or a bad pressure regulator.
